Different Kilt Pin
Here is a kilt pin I came up with last night. I know that alot of people have made alot of money with the ubiquitous claymore kiltpin, but I wanted something different. I do have a claymore kiltpin, btw. Being in the SCA years ago, I had a small collection of boar's tusks that I had recieved as awards and such. Now that I am out of the SCA, they were not of much use. I just got a plain, safety pin-type kiltpin from the local fabric store and whipped the tusk on to it, top and bottom. I used the smallest and lightest tusk that I had so as to not pull a hole in the apron. What do you think, yea or nay?

I like it. Kinda big, but that just means it will do it's job even better.

It's rustic...kind of along the lines of a stag horn tip, or grouse foot/claw. I say go for it, if it has some meaning to you, and you like it.

Good show. What did you use to attach it to the pin?

B50 Dacron. It is what some bowstrings are made out of. I bought a big spool of it, made 3 bowstrings, and still have quite a bit left. It is what I am sewing all of my leather work with as well.
Thanks for all of the positive comments.
It does have some meaning, I guess. Ever since I read Beowulf the first time, I have been fascinated with the "spirit" of the wild boar and what it meant to those of long ago.
"Boar-shapes flashed above their cheek-guards,
the brightly forged work of goldsmiths,
watching over those stern-faced men."

I like it! I'd never thought of doing something like that. Hunting wild hogs is one of my favorite hobbies and I have quite a few tusks laying around. That's a darn good idea for something to do with them.

Man, I would love to do that. Unfortunately, we do not have the pig "problem" up here.
