Tartan Prom dresses for young ladies
I have a number of friends...my age, who have kids going to high school proms. What seems to be the style for the girls around here, and in NW Washington (at least) is a variation of the classic "little black dress". And when I write "little" I mean LITTLE.
So for the girl who wants to get dressy, but doesn't want to wear the little black dress, or maybe wants to match her boyfriends tartan, I offer a few options that I found whilst wasting time on the internet. I'm going to just stick to corset/skirt combinations because they're super flexible, and easily dressed down or worn separately.

Scroll from left to right along the pictures. As a general rule, the clothes get edgier as you proceed. I doubt that the Assistant Principal will allow an ultra mini dress with fishnet stockings at your prom. However, the first couple of corset dresses are really nice, IMHO.
OK, not a mini dress or s corset dress.... I just saw it on the site

Here's a tartan corset and tartan skirt with a bustle combination.
In fact, the whole corset and skirt thing can be worked out really well IMHO.
Take something like this:
and team it up with a white pencil skirt, and blue heels. NICE.

The great thing about the strapped corset and dress combination is that she can wear the corset with a pair of shorts or a pair of blue jeans and dress it down, bigtime. The same corset can go to the Games or to the mall, pretty easily. If you get one out of polyester viscose instead of wool, it's not quite so blistering expensive.

OK, tell your girl that you want her to wear THIS.
Be prepared to duck and run.
Its OK. it's not a corset and skirt!

Strapless corset....dressier than the strapped ones, but not as flexible....and A-line skirt. (I think) in tartan.
Here is a belted bustier and skirt, but they're not separates.

Tartan bustier and tartan mini skirt combination again....
And my all-time favorite... can't see how any young lady can lose with this combination. Seriously, it's safe, it's easy, it's flexible and you CAN NOT LOSE....
Black Pencil skirt
Simple black heels, slings are sophisticated and sexy....
You can wear black tights or go bare-leg....
Tartan corset with or without shoulder straps. The strapless ones are dressier, something with straps is a little more flexible.
You guy will flip, I can pretty much guarantee it. If you get the tartan to match his kilt, he will follow you around and clean up after you, I swear.

I'm actually in the planning stages of a tartan corset, of course having issue finding Davidson in light enough fabric to pull it off.
