Finally Kilted in Wool! - or - xman's Highland Kilt #4: Complete with Special Gratitu
First I must confess to tearing out the pleats a total of twice because they just didn't look good. That's 66 pleats sewn to get 22, but the results are well worth it in the fell.
I included a small change pocket in the waistband like the one shown by Oddern here. I will likely try to add an under apron pocket at some point in the next few weeks too.

Here's the kilt, a 6m knife pleat to sett in 16oz. MacDonald of Clanranald Muted. Another half yard would have distributed the sett across the pleats a little bit better, but nobody will likely notice except me.

(pics were taken by Little Man, my 2 1/2 year old son. )
I am thankful to many people here in this community for their help and advice on virtually every issue related to this kilt from where to get fabric to approaching pockets in a kilt and everything in between. You are all wonderful and helpful people. You know who you are. Thank-you.
Unspoken so far is a special gratitude which I wish to express and it belongs directed at the late Sarah Entwistle nee Church, my maternal Grandmother who taught me some rudiments of hand stitching when I was a boy and assisted me with my sewing projects even until I was a young man. She was a kind and caring woman who seemed to spend special attention on my upbringing. Without her early instruction I would likely not be able to achieve these results. Many times in the past weeks my mind has turned to her and those stirred memories of a woman I love still so dearly is an unexpected and beautiful benefit of kilt making for me.

It looks perfect. (although I don't know how to fix the photos...) (I clicked through to flickr.)
Very nice I assume this is Clanranald muted from Marton Mills.

Congratulations!
And don't think twice about re sewing the pleats (I just took out 17 myself because the thread color I had used "Bugged me"...and I am very happy I did now)

With flickr, use the urls which point to their farm. You have to dig into the Share This section, and view the HTML codes. Look for ones with "farm". They work the best.
Great work BTW. Lovely tartan.

That seems about right.

Congrats! It makes me wish I could sew... then again, I don't really have time for it anyway, so maybe it's better that I can't

Looks good, Xman!
Well done!
I completely ripped out about 25 pleats on my son's BW kilt to change it from sett pleating to stripe pleating, right before cutting the pleats. So a big change, but it happens. I want him to have it for a long time and tell inquiring minds that his dad made it for him. So I want it made right. You did too. It's the difference between a laborer and craftsman.

Excellent work!!!!! For a second I thought you had it on backward in one pic. That's some of the better pleating I've seen in a while.
I've been known to take a little longer than others on some things, but I always say it's better to be right than quick!
Excellent looking tartan as well. Nice colors. I wouldn't change a thing!
