Looking for some new boots
As I’m sure everyone has noticed (Especially our members up in the north east of Scotland!) Winter is coming. While I’ve been trying to walk into my work these last four days I noticed that my current pair of boots are totally useless in this weather. So I’m now looking for some new boots and I thought I would put it to the rabble on here for some suggestions to make sure I don’t end up with another pair of boots that I can’t walk in when it gets a little cold.
There are some conditions. I prefer Black footwear, Looks ok while kilted, good in the weather we get over here in the U.K and comfy , preferably leather looking and able to polish when needed.
I’m currently thinking either these or somthing with a higher rise and a little more ankle support. I had a pair of combat boots before and they were good.
Does anyone have any ideas? Preferable something which I can find in the U.K aswell.

Can't go wrong with these. I have the exact same pair. My only complaint is that they don't come in half sizes, so I have to wear thick socks with them (not a problem when kilted with thick wook hose).

my only complaint about the 1460 is that the standard sole tread can fill with partially frozen snow-slush (due to the shallow tread) and lose traction.
Otherwise, they're my go to boot.

Admittedly I have never tried wearing these with a kilt but Redback work boots are the only boots I now wear. I work on a flight line and it can get pretty cold and wet in winter and these have never let me down. Also one more point I should make is I have never purchased the lace up boot and usually go with the slip on. But with a kilt I think the lace up would look better. Here is the link.

Thanks for the replies keep them coming, This was the reason I thought to post my query on here for the first hand advice and knowledge avalible. While looking on the websites for boots they have never said anything about the tread being a little shallow and filling up with snow. It is however good to know that we have people who have and wear them though.
One of the guys at my work has shown me These boots
and Im thinkin about going into town tommorow and picking up These

If youre worried about walking in snow, slush and ice, try these:

Or these:

The L.L. Bean may be the original, but I've worn the same pair of Cabela's boots every winter for the past 12 years. They really last!
Not sure how they would look with a kilt though.

Corcoran and Matterhorn were what we wore in the Army for cold weather so I can vouch for how warm these are in the winter. In fact if you are doing any manual labor they can get almost too warm for my taste. Also they might not look that great with a kilt. That is just my opinion anyway.

Mine, too.
The 1490 might offer more ankle support, though I do not own a pair of those.

I normally wear Hi-Tec Mags, but of my last 4 pairs 3 of them have had some failing before the boot was totally worn. I was just telling my wife, that I think I'm going to go with a pair of Docs the next time I get boots.
