Gold Pin and Buckle for Black Watch Tartan?

I am a gold lover. So naturally I want a gold buckle on my kilt belt with a gold kilt pin to go on my Black Watch Kilt that I have just ordered from Stillwater.

My question though is whether or not Gold is the right choice for the Black Watch tartan. Maybe silver or brass would be better?

But if the gold buckle and pin are allowed on the Black Watch Kilt, what colour sporran should I be looking for? A black rabbit fur sporran to match the black kilt belt? A gold rabbit fur sporran to match the gold buckle and pin? Or a white rabbit fur sporran to contrast with the drak tartan. The only thing is that most white sporrans have a silver cantle, so maybe it would be best to match this with a silver buclke and silver kilt pin? There is also black leather and white rabbit fur sporran, but that might be clashy?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Wheww. I think you're really overthinking this. Ditch the idea of matching. It looks contrived and very "American".

Buy a day sporran and leather sporran strap in brown leather in a style that you like. Kilt belts for day wear look nice in brown with a brass buckle. McRostie Leather makes the best, although Occonee Leatherworks belts are also very nice. Purchase a simple "blanket pin" style of kilt pin, if you decide to wear one at all. When you need a fur dress sporran try to avoid rabbit fur. They look cheap because they are so fluffy. Better instead are mink or badger.

    Best of luck!

Listen to David, good advice. Add to his list of fur sporrans that do well -- and since you are in Montreal -- is beaver. Check out our advertisers on this page. Many of them carry very fine sporrans, some of them unique.

Unless of course, you happen to be a mink or a badger.
