    My First Sporran

I just completed my first sporran - hand stitched and tooled. And I'm very excited that I actually did it. I had been talking about trying to make one, but had put it off for years. But here she is and not too shabby. I tooled a Pictish fox head on the cover for the Todds. I hope that you like it - I've been hoping to contribute to X-Marks for some time.

If that's your first sporran, I'm assuming you must have some experience working with leather in general; it looks great!

I don't have the experience, but I watched you all and did my best to mimic. That plus I bled out when I stabbed myself with the sewing awl and discovered that I had to redo the stitching because it was uneven. It's close enough and I stopped bleeding, so here's she is for your enjoyment.

Amazing! I've been dabbling in leathercraft for a couple of years now and that puts both my sporrans to shame!

Very well done, sir! Now I have a beginner's impetus to try my hand at my own sporran.

Thanks for the feedback. I really enjoyed making the fox. I used a really thick piece of leather hoping to get more depth in his face, but I didn't cut deep enough. Also, I adhered the fox to the cover with tanner's bond rubber cement and I'm afraid that it might not hold with too much usage. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might secure it aesthetically?
