Putting The Pieces Together
Hello. My name is Charlie Lame Deer. I am Wazhazhe, Mniconjou, Mdewakanton and Mawatani. But there's another in my ancestry who needs to be honored by me. His name was Bartholamew Austin. He came to America from Wales. By whichever means a person wishes to describe such a finding, it is my opinion that finding this group nothing short of miraculous and fascinating. One of the first things I noticed were the red and yellow colors associated with Clan Keith. In translation, Wazhazhe--I am Red Yellow, there was no word for orange and the two colors have always been seperated to make the distinction, the colors of the rising and setting sun. On the paternal side of my family, our earliest knowing is of One Horn whose symbol was the head of a buck. This symbol has carried on and is still used today. Another connection made.
I farm when the weather permits and serve as a Canunpa Wicasa kin, meaning, I am a sash wearer in our tribe. Eventually I'd like to have a sash made according to the Keith-Austin tartan. And who knows, I may be able to incorporate a proper kilt into my regalia. This would be an awesome thing I think.
I enjoy fly fishing and tying fishing flies, sitting in my cabin and writing, and most of all, learning from my two children.
I am very much looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible though this media, and perhaps even in person.

Welcome, and thanks for choosing to honor all streams of descent. Some aspects of that can be a little tricky at times. Enjoy.

Thank you, each of you for the welcoming. It is quite an honor being here. I noticed several places, origins of your posts which I have ties with in some way or another. Especially Slovenia. WOW! I play an accordion and Slovische Muzik is great. But this is not to exclude any other national music. I just haven't learned to quite get the sound right, at least not for my liking. An awesome radio show on NPR is Thistle and Shamrock. Yep, NPR is my station of choice other than GON.
Have a wonderful and blessed Sunday
