A slightly delayed Lady Chrystel review

A slightly delayed review of my new Lady Chrystel box pleat kilt.

Unfortunately due to a series of incidents including burning my hand and writing off my car (and a little bit of snow!) this is the first time I have been able to type a review for this kilt which arrived In November.

First up dealing with Lady Chrystel was great either she or Robert answered all of my email's quickly and both were very happy to answer my questions.

My kilt arrived when I was told it would and fit perfectly. It took a little while to get used to the different buckle arrangement, having one on the left of the under apron threw me a little at first but it is a fantastic way to do it and of course this being my first box pleat kilt it swings a little differently than a knife pleat.

But these are minor differences and the overall quality of work and construction that went into the kilt is fantastic. Unfortunately there are no photos of it out and about due to my hand being slung up at the time but it drew lots of good compliments.

One good thing about the delay in this review is that I have had lots of time to wear my newest kilt out and about and it is well received where ever I go. I did a little shopping just before Christmas and while I discovered that -16 Celsius is a little cold, the rest of the time a box pleat is a little light weight for proper winter that's really the only time I've been cold.

This kilt has fast become my favourite and has had a lot of wear in the past two months. I look forward to getting another kilt from Lady Chrystel in the future

    Without further ado some photos.

Sorry about the photos I had to take them myself.

Next, get one of the double box pleated ones that she does!! The double box pleats are great and swing almost like a knife pleat- and they're every bit as warm!

So- I have to say that I love the contrast of the red sox with that tartan. Hot and cool colors are one of my favorite ways to go, as well. It looks spectacular! I actually am planning on wearing mine out tonight to my new years eve festivities.

    Thanks very much gentelmen,

I though the red hose would match the red strip in the kilt when I out them on but even though they don't I still like it for thie contrast.

A double box pleat in on my wish list sometime in the forseable future, no idea when yet tho.

Yeah, of you want a red that will match, I would think a nice pair of Lewis hose from the Scottish Tartans Museum would do the trick- either the claret or the brick red! Oh course, you obviously know all about those... I have three pair, and love them all! What a great investment!

I've decided not to bother too much about matching,I blame Jock

The hose are (if I remember correctly) brick red from John at Keltoincant remember who made them tho.

Oh I do understand! I don't concern myself much with that, either. I blame my grandmother, and for a similar reason to you blaming Jock! However, I do like to match some time. A nice forest green pair of hose can really set off my Colorado state tartan kilt.

Looks very nice. I also found that the communication was excellent, and of course Chrystel's work to be superb.
The details are all perfect, placement of beltloops, the depth of the pleats, overall finishing--wonderful. The left buckle is a little different, but it works fine. As you say, the movement of a box pleat is different, and a double box pleat, different again. Welcome to the club!
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

On behalf of Lady Chrsytel, I would like to thank you all for the kind words.

For the different strap system, we have to give credit to Matt Newsome .

    All the best for 2011,

    Robert and Lady Chrystel
