Button, Button
I want to make a black Prince Charlie jacket for Mark to go with the kilt I will be making. Does anyone have an inexpensive source for the square buttons or a suggestion on how to create them? Does any member have an old rag-tag Charlie jacket and are willing to sell the buttons for a thrifty price?
I ordered the Folkwear pattern. If I can't afford the buttons, then I will ask Mark to make his own buttons in his ceramics class. Or perhaps my husband can use his welder to cut some plain buttons out of aluminum. I think the craft shops sell inexpensive button backs. I would rather find some of the real buttons for sale at an affordable price, but I guess we could put round silver buttons on it. I really like those square buttons, though. Any suggestions?

Hi Artificer,
I saw the eBay listing before I wrote the thread, and it was the best price I could find, too. I would sure like to find some for less, even used ones would be quite okay.

Dont worry about the buttons, some of the best jackets are totally unique. I do believe someone somewhere has salmons for their buttons.

At our local normal fabric shop they have buttons with Celtic knotwork on them, the same price as any other mass market buttons. They would look great on any Scottish jacket, I think.
Various Viking/Runic/Nordic themed pewter buttons are available from places that sell stuff for Scandinavian costumes. I have a set that has Viking/Runic knotwork on them.

Don't know if these fall in your price range, but I have them on my PC and love them.
