Burns Night Disappointment
We were going to do something for the residents at St. Andrews Care Home at teatime on Tuesday for Burns Night and then I would go to my SCD class later.
When I called at the home this afternoon the manageress informed me that the highland dancers have called off and the piper has got the flu. So the residents will be served haggis as their evening meal and there will be no other festivities.
Then when I arrived home the phone rang, and yes, it was my dance partner calling to tell me she has hurt her knee and won't be going to the dance class tomorrow.

Alex I am so sorry to hear that it was not a good day. I, in contrast, went to a local celebration - my first - with my wife and my newly adopted band, the Scots Highland Pipes and Drums, and had a wonderful time. I hope the next year holds much better for you.

Sorry to hear of the misfortune. Since misery loves company I feel obligated to tell you that our local dinner was a bit of a disapointment as well. I was however able to toast dear Rabbie at home with a nice bottle of Glenlivet. Better luck to us both next year!

I am sorry to hear that disappointing news.
Although not exactly the same, I was inquiring with the local United Scots Clan about the local Burns Supper (scheduled for this Saturday). And even though the website clearly lists the contact info and states, "all welcome to celebrate", I have emailed 3 times and phoned twice--still not a word.
It doesn't look as though I will even have a chance. Oh well...maybe next year I will just plan a trip to a spot that has a nice celebration and make it an entire trip of it.

Alex - this year must have been problem for many. We had snow Saturday that resulted in one icy road having 6 - 8 wrecks. The road was closed from 2:00pm until after 7:00pm and is the only access road in and out of a community of some 1,200 houses! We had 7 couples stuck there who did not make our Burns Supper.

Alex, I can only say to you what the Baltimore Ravens fans are saying here. Just wait 'till next year! But don't feel bad, I got stuck at home, too. We were going out for dinner to celebrate, and I got a call from a friend, saying he needed to see me right away. I told him of our plans and he said he would hurry over. So, we waited for him for 3 hours. Dinner was out. Wait 'til next year.

Sorry
Alex,
Sorry to hear you have been so unlucky recently. I'm sure many of the residents at the home would have enjoyed some entertainment.
I still regard the night we went to the SCD event as a highlight of my trip to Scotland last year.
Looks like I will have a chance to attend a Burns Night supper this friday in the local area.
Didn't think I would this year.
Best regards,
Tom

Oh Alex, I am sorry they missed the events.
When are you crossing the pond? I see a trip to Victoria in our future.
If you are going to be on the west coast on March 12th, you can attend our SCD workshop and ball.

Well Burns Day here turned out quite hectic after all.
I got called out to drive a 33 seat midibus to cover for a driver who had injured his hand. Arrived home just in time for a quick bite to eat, no time to change into the kilt for SCD class. Arrived at SCD and a spare lady turned up so I got a full evening's energetic dancing. Gosh it was warm, I'm not used to doing SCD in the dreaded tr**sers.
