Spotted wild cat sporran
I just won a ladies hand warmer on eBay. I'm planning on making it into a sporran as I think it will look really really nice. I was wondering if anyone knew of a spotted cat ( leopard - bobcat - Geoffrey cat - cheetah) sporran from your closet or history. This is obviously going to be a dress sporran so let's see those pictures. I will be opening a thread when I get this in the mail on a step by step sporran construction with lots of help from you the x marks pro's
Here is one example I found

I have no idea what animal the fur came from, but certainly not a Scottish Wild Cat.

It was advertised to be Geoffrey Cat. I think I agree. As they are close to being endangered and this is a repaired antique hand warmer I couldn't pass it up. I think it's a shame to let this go hang in a closet unused and unloved. I want it to live on in a family heirloom sporran that will be used often and loved. I view it as wearing a seal skin sporran.
Whatever animal it is I think it will be a stunning sporran when finished.

We've discussed this issue before, so I think you should become aware of the following eBay regulation. I own a leopard skin (and once had a tiger rug), so don't mean to preach, but times have changed and the wild cats have become rare. Jaguars, once common, have become endangered.

Woah. I had no idea. What should I do? Am I going to get in trouble?
Update: so after totally freaking out and having a heart attack (figurative) I called eBay and talked to a rep. She put me on hold for a wile and came back on and said that the item was LEGAL and NOT in violation of eBay rules.

Glad to hear you're not going to jail over this. Good point about CITES, though. I know that there are some things that you'd think are banned by CITES, but are perfectly legal. Example, (In the U.S.) ivory, (non-fossilized, elephant ivory and some other ivories): if it is documented that it was harvested prior to a specific date, (sometime in 1971), it is perfectly legal to buy sell and posses it, and items produced from it. But DON'T try to ship it or any items produced from it, outside the U.S.

I assume it's the macintosh motto you refer to. And yes lesson learned. I will be more careful when buying things online.
