A belated Chrstmass surprise from Thorfinn Sporrans
Several years ago, I had to leave my job due to pretty severe loss of vision, divorce followed soon after, and then the struggle to live on a limited income. All this, quite frankly left me just a bit down on just about everything. My daughter, out of the mouth of babes right, out of the blue made the suggestion that I get back into piping, and maybe that would help things just a bit, she was rigtht, it saved my sanity.
A big blow however was yet to be served, much of my kit, much given me by my grandfather had been made off with. Some of the things were given to him by his father. Undaunted I endeavored to carry on, setting aside when and where I could to rebuild something I thought my grandfather would be proud of.
Well today I got a package from Turpin at Thorfinn Sporrans. i honestly didn't expect to have this till near summer, and had to beg and borrow even though Turpin was willing to work wometing out.
Well let me tell you, when I opened that box, and had that sporran in my hand, i could hear the grumble of approval, and see that eve so slight lift at the corner of the mouth that signaled approval in Pops eye's.
Tt is truly well made, and is unique to what Turpin and I had discussed. I had said, in an ealier thread, that I really liked to support the craftspeople here and what Turpin created for me is the very reason why. He knew my situation, he listened to what I had to say, and came up with something more valuable than it's cost. It was worth every bit of scrimping I had to do, well worth it.
I will try and post pics as soon as I can, in the meanitme, Turpin fell free to put up a pic if you still have one.
Sorry for the long story, just had to say how I felt.
So, whether you want to look at it as an early Christmass or a late one, Turpin and David have made this a very good one.
Thank you both.
Scott

Turpin is great to work with. I've really enjoyed my Thorfinn with the inter-changeable flaps.

Turpin is, indeed, a very good man... and craftsman!
I can't wait to see a picture of the bag...

I agree that Turpin is a good man and a great craftsman (even if he is my brother).

Here's a pic I took before I shipped the bag to Scott. It's a muskrat sporran. I used the belly fur on the gusset. Barely had any left over from this guy. The tassels are skunk fur, as Scott wanted contrasting tassels. Cantle is cast pewter from Clan Art. And yes, it does have a cell phone pocket.
Hopefully Scott can get a pic of himself wearing it, maybe from a piping gig.

Yep, perty work...and hopefully it will be worn on many gigs soon, so I can find a legal means to pay for all the AWESOME work I am jonesing over in this veritable candy store of artists.
Thanks for posting that pic Turpin. Davidpope was very kind in setting me up with a belts that will work quite nicely with it.
Thank you both very much.
