Tall Rabble or J. Higgins Jacket Advice/Reviews
Good Day Gentlemen,
I will be officiating a wedding in the fall and would like to purchase an argyle jacket. Here's the dilemma, I'm 6'6" and I need a 48 to 50 Extra-Long jacket. I've spent hours looking online and the only jacket that I've found is from J.Higgins. Our X-Marks Partners have up to a Long length, but that's a little over a 3/4 sleeve on me. Any tall kiltwearers or rabble that have dealt with J.Higgins or know of a place to purchase any Extra-Long jackets, please advise. Thanks in advance!

6'5" 270# here, wearing a US 50 XL or UK 52XL jacket and 38-39 sleeve length shirts. I actually own two Higgins Argylls in US 50XL that I ordered from them 3 years ago. I know that they do not tailor their own because of a particular problem their rep said about the buttons being wrong when the jackets/waistcoats "came in" to their shop, but I cannot say who they source out to. They both fit well, one in black barathea and the other charcoal tweed. Their service is good, they answer their phones and will call you to verify your order and measurements, etc....

I also got a good quality modern tweed jacket/waistcoat combo from Heritage of Scotland two years ago that was ordered with XL sleeves. I just checked their website and they do offer UK sized Argyll +/- waistcoat in larger sizes with the option of XL sleeve length:

Thetartanstore.co.uk also has a made to measure Argyll jacket/waistcoat set that allows you to put in your actual required measurements (a pretty rigourous measurement exercise) although I have never ordered a jacket from them (just one nice kilt):

I have got to believe that places like Lochcarron, Kinloch-Anderson, or House of Edgar would be able to make a made to measure jacket with XL sleeves. I also bet that if you contacted Matt/STM, Rocky/USAKilts, John/Keltoi, or Steve/FreedomKilts that any of them would be able to help you with a special order jacket made to measure for you, as they generally work directly with the tailors. Make some calls, get some prices, you do have options.
Good luck and let me know if I can help further.

We can do MTM jackets, no problem, with just a $50 upcharge from standard sizing (which includes S, R, L, and XL sleeves). Just let us know the measurements you require when ordering.

And be sure to click the MTM fee add to cart button on the bottom of the page.

Brooke reminded me where my better photo of the HOS jacket and waistcoat set was stashed:

I am glad to see that Matt chimed in about his made to measure options. When I visited their tent at the Stone Mountain Games this year I got to see some of the beautiful tweed jackets they had, and can only imagine that they would do you proud with a nice black Argyll for your wedding ceremony (well not YOUR wedding ceremony---you know what I mean).

Our esteemed forum owner, Steve Ashton can get you a made to measure jacket also. The last time I looked, they weren't shown on the Freedom kilts website, but he does sell jackets. and his prices are reasonable. I did have some communication problems caused by our email servers not liking each other. If you call him, there is no problem.

Higgins Jackets
Sealark,
I'm 6'6.5", 230lbs and because of this I am not to keen on ordering any article of clothing "sight unseen". I have experienced many retailers that say that a jacket in particular is an X-long and when I receieved it the sleeves were made for a McMunchkin. However, I have a Higgins Argyle in 48 X-long and was pleasantly surprised that the sleeve length was actually correct for the jacket size. Besides, you can't beat the price.

Thank You All!!! I knew that the rabble would have the answers and offer more choices. I love this site, but spend too much time on it at work. I'll check out all of your suggestions and will post a picture once I purchase it. I know that I must post pictures or it never happened! Thanks again guys!
