Kilt belt in trade for buckles!
I have a buddy who is a blacksmith. He and I worked out a deal- 3 hand forged belt buckles for a kilt belt. Haven't gotten the buckles yet, but here's the belt I made for him:
It's 2.5 inches wide, with a 1.5 inch belt weaving in and out of slots to take the place of a buckle. No hardware needed!
I used an antler tine to help sinch the belt a little tighter.
I was really pleased with how it came out. My friend will be wearing it with his kilt in the St. Paddy's Day parade this weekend, so I'll get some pictures of it in use and post them on Monday.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Ooo- I like it! Very cool looking, I think, and pretty unique! The scribed line around the edges really gives it a finished look, too. Excelent.

Hmmmm
It looks nice Nighthawk, but I'm feelin' a little dense here. I'm not getting the no hardware concept. Can you show a few pics of how it actually works ?
Thanks!

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

I love this concept. And the antler tine is a beautiful touch. Dang I need to save up and get a belt from you.

Not to tease too much... but I just finished my own kilt belt (it's a red cinch belt with tooled knotwork) and am making a belt for my wife to wear with her Renaissance dress. I'll post pictures soon.

It's the little details. I like borders like that. One thing that always bugs me is how little attention people pay to the belt keeper. I like mine to look like they're really a part of the belt! The keeper I made for my on belt is as decorative as the belt itself! Again, I'll take and post pictures this afternoon. Didn't even think to take pics of the keeper!

I'll do that this afternoon, but I'll give you a more detailed explanation here:
You'll notice that the smaller strap weaves in and out of slits cut into the belt. Those slits are on both ends. The two ends overlap, and the smaller strap weaves in and out through both. It's a tight fit, and holds the whole thing together. (Did that description make any sense at all?!?! )

In other words the friction exerted by the stiff leather being woven in and out of another piece of stiff leather holds the belt tight.
