Whomever had the bright idea for everyone to walk over the street vent must not have been thinking about "the Marilyn."

On the contrary. I think they were thinking about "the Marilyn". It seems like there's one of these pics every year.

there's 24 pics. Every kiltwearer that sees the vent has that "uh oh" look.

I only ever played in Cincinnati's competition Grade 3 band and never marched in one of the parades with them (too far to travel for that kind of thing), but I always got the impression the members consider it like a game of Russian Roulette.

Perhaps someone in Cincinatti could answer this question: why would a kilted parade be routed to cross an air vent like this?
I could also ask why the photographers find it necessary to position themselves where they can take embarrassing pictures (dumb question, I suppose).

Whatever the vent does, the pictures show a happy group of people and I guess the parade was good. Certainly miss seeing parades since the Allied Forces left Berlin. Thanks a lot for showing good photos.

I lived in Cincinnati for some years. For all intents, if you want your parade to go through Fountain Square downtown, you are going to go over vents. They're all over the place. Fountain Square is the city center, and the logical place for a parade to go.

Seems I remember a youtube video from lastyear where an unlucky soul got to answer the question.
I did notice on cincinnati.com that all the St. Patrick's Day pictures where taken from the same vantage point, pointed over the vent. FYI- there is a garage under Fountain Square and the vent is from the garage.

I attended the parade in Cincinnati this year. I was kilted, of course, but I did not march in the parade. My viewing area was down the street about thirty yards from the vents but I failed to see any of the commotion going on down the street. From the vantage point of the pictures, my guess is that the photographer was in the radio booth trailer that was operating as the 'MC' for the event. The placement of the vent in front of the media trailer minimized the amount of people who were treated to the exposures because of the limited number of people in the radio booth trailer.
It is very much true that there are vents all around the area and the parade route had to cross at least some vents to make it to the center of downtown. Honestly, though, Saturday was INCREDIBLY windy in downtown Cincinnati. Windy enough that I wore THREE kilt pins to provide extra weight. I was happy about that choice as I crossed Fountain Square.
We had a fun day at the parade despite the crazy conditions.

Too funny! Looks like a lot of them thought ahead luckily!
