Just sprung for one of these...

the seller is only a few miles from me and despite a guarantee of being wool, the 5 yard construction should make it qute light to wear. I like the semi formal style of the plaid and lack of clan association. what opinions do we have?

Not sure what I think about that price for it (and certainly their undiscounted retail price!), but I do like the tartan.

Its that odd thing where a polyester viscose one would cost a third of the price and an 8 yard half as much again. As I am keen to own a dark grey kilt this seemed ok, mostly because other grey kilts seemed pale and black too well ..black.
I see it as a nice dressy item with a prince charlie where I would consider a shirt of another colour than white but also with a black ghillie shirt and hose.

My RAF, WPG Cameron and newly aquired 'Ben wyvis' (look it up, its gorgeous) are all heavy 8 yard jobs so this one can be light, a little bit modern and wear like wool rather than cheaper end synthetics.

    Or

Here is a link to Skye Highland Outfitters who have 8 yard machine stitched kilts in most Marton Mills 16 and 13 oz wool tartans for only about 20 GBP more than what that 5 yard will cost. Albeit, plus shipping to the UK. They are made in Scotland, so perhaps a direct ship to you from there could be arranged.

Drop them a line, it's always nice to have options!

My box pleated auld Scotland kilt was made by Gabriel who works for SHO. I liked is so much that I just pulled the trigger on a MacEwan Modern 8 yard knife pleat kilt.

I got them from USA Kilts and yes they fit big calves. Call Rocky and he will tell you the colors he has in stock I'm going to order some they may take a month or so to come in but they are so worth it.
