The power of the kilt continues

29°F this evening, above that is. Really long day, I left the hospital at 630PM and had to go back at 830PM for one more thing. But it was relatively warm out.

I went by my place and changed into my kilt, then over to the fiance's house to have dinner and check the math homework of teenager #3.

From there back to the hospital at 830P, the patient I had to see was in a bunny suit environment, no worries there. Got my portable recorder into a bag, out of the bunny suit and then all the way to the other end of the complex kilted with a bag in my hand.

I took the stairs down to the main lobby and heard a squeal. You know how a girl squeals when she gets a paper cut but has that other squeal for, you know, other feelings? This was that other squeal.

I saw two women at adjacent desks accross the lobby. As I approached I saw one had a smile that communicated, "I just learned something about my co-worker, and I kind of like it."

The other looked like she had just finished a four minute mile. Joyfully. Her words in italics below.

    Me: Are you quite alright?

Oh yes, I like men in kilts. I have been to Scotland twice.

This lass was not exactly my "type"; but she was not unattractive, and easily ten years my junior. I responded, "I have read that 97% of women surveyed like the look of a man in a kilt."

This lead to significant hand wringing, blushing and hair tossing. I pointed out to her that she was not wearing a wedding band and it would be ok for her to speak her mind.

Accompanied by a bright pink blush that was visible from neckline to hair line she intoned, "You look HOT".

I was not quite prepared for this turn of events, though I have prepared several index cards of witty comebacks gleaned from this website.

The best I could muster was, "And your hair looks lovely today, have a nice evening."

Why, why, why did I not buy a kilt years and years ago as a bachelor? What was I thinking?
