    The. Royal. Wedding.

After today, I'll be offline for a few days, so I want to take this opportunity to wish all British (and Commonwealth, and any other) monarchists the very best enjoyment of the big day. Television coverage starts at 03:00 hrs here in the Eastern Time Zone, but I expect I'll be up and watching. (And now there are rumours of an even earlier start- that may be going too far but we'll see.) A few random observations for skeptics: observing the amount of free advertising that the UK has garnered in the USA and Canada over the past month, or even over the past week, makes any expense to the British taxpayers look less than trivial. And, I spent last weekend with a sector of the family that are as little aware of their British heritage as it is possible to be, but when I showed the princess-obscessed little girls the real princess, Kate, on TV, they instantly became super-heritage kids. These royal events do have a saluatory effect on the British that goes far beyond the shores of the UK. Have fun everyone!

My boyfriend said "He just doesn't get it" (all the hubbub) but in my opinion, I welcome anything nice and good and "Magical" on the news and TV.
Lately, the way the world has been "acting" (earth and people) it is like a Disney movie....sorry, I grew up down the street from disneyland. Can't help it. i still expect squirrels and rabbits to smile too.

    They don't! Whoa...

I am happy for the Royal Wedding. I hope they are able to share a long life of happiness with each other.

While I'm happy to see good news for a change, I'm so sick of the media saturation. It's not just coverage... Every time I turn on the TV, there's something about it! I don't care about Kate's problem with her mouthy security guard. It's the whole tabloid gossip aspect that's starting to get to me!

As a fellow graduate of St Andrews how can I not but celebrate?

Especially as the Chancellor who graduated both William and Kate, the late Professor Sir Kenneth Dover, gave me my highest ever essay mark of 87.5% for my essay upon the Comic Heroes of Aristophanes!

I took the day off work on Friday and will be soaking in BBC America all. day. long.

Although I wish the american broadcasters would pay a little more attention to detail - yesterday I heard one utter the phrase "Prince William of Windsor".

I wouldn't call myself a monarchist, but my family has always been much aware of its British heritage. My sister observes Guy Fawkes' Day in her way, and I observe St. George's and St. Andrew's Days in my own quiet way.

Perhaps I may check in on the festivities on Friday. I don't watch much television, so it's entirely possible I may have never heard about the wedding if I didn't visit XMTS with some frequency. I'm fine with the pomp and ceremony, and all that. I'd much rather hear about this than some Hollywood celebrity's wedding. Nevertheless, however much pomp and ceremony there is, however much it costs to put on, and however much tourist revenue it brings in, it's just a wedding, and like any other wedding, the two will have to work at it to keep it alive.

Even though I was very young at the time, I remember another wedding, one that was followed with much (probably more) interest here in the United States, and was often called a "fairytale wedding". Without that wedding there would not be this one, but I sincerely hope this wedding turns out much better than that one.

All that said, what I really don't want to miss on Friday is the final launch of Endeavour.

Although the media are annoying, I think the coverage is appropriate--especially since Prince William, Lord willing, will someday be the friggin king!!! haha, sorry for unprofessionalism, but c'mon!!!!! KING!!!...

anyhow, as an American born and bread, I wish we had some sort of institution like the monarchy.
