Flogging Molly - Speed of Darkness
Flogging Molly released a new album - Speed of Darkness - on May 31, 2011. Available everywhere.
The reviews I've seen have been very good.
SPEED OF DARKNESS is an album for our times, a portrait of America painted by the bleak tones of Detroit, Michigan. Fueled by the urban decay found rampant throughout the current home city of vocalist/songwriter Dave King and his wife and bandmate Bridget Regan, the record balances depression with optimism.

Flogging Molly have always focused on the struggles of the working man in their Celtic-influenced punk rock, so it makes sense that they would turn in one of their best records yet in the wake of a worldwide economic downturn. On Speed of Darkness, the Los Angeles band's fifth studio album, the group speak up for those who have lost their jobs and speak against the greed of wealthy CEOs.
Rolling Stone review
My review? Meh. I'm old enough to remember U2 from their early days, before Bono decided he alone could change the world with a pair of outsized amber glasses. Remember Boy and "I will follow", and then War (we can all agree to skip over October) with "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day"?
I see a little of this in FM's latest. While they may have always written with the common man in mind, Speed of Darkness is a little too preachy and Detroit/US-centric to my taste. Salty Dog, Selfish Man and Devil's Dance Floor had me jumping in the aisles when I saw them. They previewed "Don't Shut 'em Down" at the same show and I decided mid-chorus that it might be the right time for a washroom break.
YMMV
