SNEAK PREVIEW - New Economy Sporrans!

    Head's up gang!

We are working on a pretty major revision of the gift shop part of our web site. I can't tell you when it will go live, but I did want to let you know of an exciting new line of economy sporrans we will be adding.

We have just received our first samples of these yesterday and we are really excited. We have for the past few years been looking for a good supplier of quality sporrans we could sell at an introductory level price. Well, we have finally found on and we are really excited about it.

These sporrans are made by a quality leather crafter right here in North Carolina, from high quality American supplied leather. He's good. He's fast. And he's reliable. We've been working with him the past few weeks to design three styles of sporran for us which will retail for under $100.

Let's face it. If you just put down $500 of your hard earned money on that custom kilt in your clan tartan you've been dreaming of for years, it is hard to then immediately plop down another $350 for that dream sporran - no matter how much you want it. Yet you need some kind of sporran to wear. You'd rather not scour Ebay for an affordable sporran where the only thing cheaper than the price is the quality. You want something that you can be proud to wear that won't break the bank.

We hope these three styles of "economy" sporrans will fit the bill! Even though our new web site redesign won't go live for a while yet, I'd like to give our supporters here on X Marks the chance to order immediately.

You can order any of the below styles by calling the museum gift shop toll free at 866-898-1192. If you prefer to order online, until the new web site goes live, you can email us at tartans@scottishtartans.org and request a PayPal invoice for your order.

And now, without further delay... here's our new sporran line!
    ----------
EDIT 8/8/11: These sporrans are now live on our web site and can be ordered here:

    Rob Roy style sporran

First up is a traditional "Rob Roy" style bag sporran.

Here it is in black leather.

    And in dark brown.

    Open:

This sporran is 8" tall and 6.5" wide, and has a very roomy pouch. The bag is made from premium quality cowhide. Genuine antler crown button hand sewn to the flap. The bag is double thick along the top edge to prevent wear and tear around the drawstring.

    Order now for only $89.95!

    Country Squire sporran

Simple, but elegant! We are calling this sporran, featuring a swing clasp closure, our "Country Squire" sporran.

    Here's one in black.

    Same style in dark brown.

    Dark brown one open:

This sporran is about 7.5" tall and 7" wide, and 2" deep. It has a roomy pouch, without being overly large. Made from quality bridle leather in black or brown. There is a nice line of beveling around the edge of the flap to add a finishing touch.

We think people will especially like the unique swing clasp that is the main feature of this sporran. The black leather sporran comes with a white-metal clasp, and the brown one with a brass toned clasp.

At only $79.95, this is our most affordable sporran!

    Heritage Daywear sporran

We are calling this next model our "Heritage Daywear" sporran. This one is as traditional as they come.

    In black:

    And brown:

    Brown one open:

This model has a slightly more rounded shape than the Country Squire. It's about 7" tall and 7.5" wide, and 1.5" deep. Made from quality Bridle leather from the world famous US tanner Hermann and Oak. Each sporran has three leather tassels, a beveled line around the flap edge for detail, and a snap closure. The black leather sporran features a subtle black enameled snap, while the brown sporran has a brass snap.

Very traditional. Extremely functional. Only $96.95.

    Deluxe Edition

Ok, so this last one doesn't sell for under $100 and therefore is not considered part of our "economy" line of sporrans. However, I wanted to show it off to let you know what other goodies we have available.

This Deluxe edition sporran is fully lined and padded pouch from supple and luxurious leather. It has convenient credit card/id slots built into the back wall to and an open pocket attached to the front wall interior to provide a separate space for loose items such as receipts, parking passes or business cards. All the edges are padded and rolled for a clean, finished look.

The sporran closes with a super easy to use magnetic snap which is fully hidden from the outside.

Lots of extra work goes into making this one, but it's well worth it at $250. You really need to feel the softness of the leather to appreciate this one, folks!

Regardless of whether you want to order the Deluxe Edition, or take advantage of one of our three new economy models, please feel free to order at any time by calling toll free at 866-898-1192 or emailing us at tartans@scottishtartans.org.

    Enjoy!

    Matt,

Are these prototypes or are these the final product? Not sure if you're looking for constructive criticisms...

Any chance you will be selling leather sporran straps to go with these? Not the hangar style but the one that are just like the chain but instead are just made of leather. I have seen several at several different sites but they always seem to be a different color of brown than the sporrans I want to wear them with. I really like the Dark Brown "Country Squire" sporran that one is going to be my next purchase if you all sell a matching dark brown sporran strap to go with it.
