    Casual kilting

Last weekend I attended the graduation of my nephew at Edinburgh University, we had a great time and smashing dinner at Howies in Victoria Street and previous to that a few drinks sitting outside Greyfriars Bobby pub,(monument to Bobby must be most photographed in the world, it is just non stop with tourists filming and taking photos, I must have been in hundreds of photos and videos just because we were sitting outside the pub)

As usual,I was formally dressed for such an occassion but whereas the formal attire is probably the smartest dress for men, does it not get a bit heavy after a few hours? This weekend I will be up Loch Lomondside at the highland games but I will be casually kilted, stockings at the ankles, no sporran (although without the sporran it more difficult to carry money, cards, keys etc.) and just a casual top of sorts. I think this is where the kilt is at its best when you are more relaxed and wearing it in a casual way.
Its good that during the summer here in Scotland we have so many family events as well as social and cultural events that allows us to be kilted almost every week

Pictures are worth a thousand words, Jimmy!

Below is a pic of the Mrs. & I at a brew pub. It was preparation for me to go shopping! Now this is kiltd casual in hot steamy summer days in Virginia.

I know the value of pictures as opposed to words, Ern, but I seldom take photos and believe it or not I don't own a modern camera, I generally borrow my brothers camera. I should really start to take photos of places that I have visited.
My brother took volumes of photos at the graduation last week, I'll try to get his camera and post some of them. I bet you have seen more places in Edinburgh than me and I only stay 40 miles from ''Auld Reekie''

Although I stay just outside Glasgow and always defend the city, there certainly is much more to Edinburgh for visitors to see than Glasgow

    I'd say so, yes.

This weekend I will be up Loch Lomondside at the highland games but I will be casually kilted, stockings at the ankles, no sporran (although without the sporran it more difficult to carry money, cards, keys etc.) and just a casual top of sorts. Good for you!!

This pic (public link) is from Monday, "casually kilted" on a chilly foggy evening on the beach at half Moon Bay waiting for the town's annual Independence Day fireworks display:

The surprising thing to me (and my girlfriend) was that about a dozen people asked to be photographed with me.

The kilt (from Rocky at USA Kilts) is in the US Army tartan in honor of the day. Navy lambswool jumper from Cabela's; leather SWK cargo sporran; bison Lewis hose with bottle green garter ties; bespoke stag antler sgian from Taygrd; green handmade bonnet from Ryan Ross.

I think the advertisers/members here have gotten me outfitted pretty well.

I find it interesting you say that. My father was born and raised in Brighton, England, about 50 miles from London. He came to the United States in 1961 when he was 19. He never even saw London until 1991 when he and my mother went back for a few weeks.

Note:Scottish at this time comes from mom's side of the family, Robertson. I haven't been able yet to dig in my fathers side of the family as he, his parents and all siblings have passed on

Sounds like a man ahead of his time to me.
