As a home grown Scot born and bred near Glasgow but not a '' weegie'' (Glaswegian), I have always been orientated towards the West of Scotland but in the past couple of years I have had cause to visit Edinburgh on several occassions and have been kilted on them all.
I spent the weekend in Edinburgh and although it is only 40 miles from Glasgow, the difference between the cities is night and day.
Let me say that I love Glasgow and would never give it unfair criticism but in some ways Edinburgh has the edge over it albeit we have the best football teams.
Edinburgh at the weekend was full to the rafters as expected in August with the Festival, the fringe and a couple of sporting events taking place, I have seldom been in a major world city where there has been such a diversity of tourists.
So on to the kilt and it was a great experience wearing the kilt, so many people stopped me to ask what tartan I was wearing and saying how good Scottish dress was. Certainly it was a very positive outcome to being kilted and as a native Scot in my own land, I can say that I was ''faired chuffed ''with the response.
Of course there were plenty other kilties about especially on Saturday with the rugby international at Murrayfied. I did see one guy in a utilikilt and he looked good, I'm not too sure if I would have the courage to wear a utilikilt at home but would love to try one on
