    Glasgow awash with kilts

The big match on Saturday, Scotland v Czech Republic, in the European Championship brought a full house to Hampden Park and flooded the city centre with legions of the Tartan Army, if you were not kilted, you weren't quoted.
unfortunately we did not get the result we wanted a 2-2 each draw is not enough and we probably won't get to the finals next year.

One thing about the Tartan Army is their dress sense, from the sublime to the ridiculous, with many more different tartans on show than you would see at 'the Worlds' a few weeks ago in Glasgow.

For ideas on how to wear the kilt and what accessories that you should wear with the kilt then innovation and creative development would shame the best fashion houses in Europe, the Tartan Army is splendid and truly sartorial in their multitudes at a major footballing event in their home city.

I would suggest that it would be a great experience and learning curve for any kilted person to visit Glasgow at such an event. The different kilts, the footwear and hose or without hose, the shirts either formal or informal , the headgear, its all their to see and gaze in wonder.
Tomorrow night Scotland play again at Hampden in Glasgow and if we had won on Saturday, a full house would have been guaranteed and the city centre packed with kilties but now the attendance will be small and less kilts on show. Its a pity for anyone in the area would have enjoyed the kilted extravaganza that the Tartan Army provide

I did not take camera with me, scared in case I would lose or misplace it somewhere as being with the Tartan Army calls for a great and sacrificing act of non-sobriety.

I'm sure you tube or the Tartan Army website will have photos soon

I think that this would probably be a good photo-exercise. How the kilt is worn today by real people, doing real things. We often talk about how it should be worn. It would be quite enlightening to to see it as it IS worn.

I think you have a mission Jimmy.

    Regards

    Chas

Good Idea, pity tomorrow night is not going to be well attended, if they had won on saturday then Glasgow would be mobbed, Will have to wait until next important big game in Glasgow, alternatively the final game in Spain next month will probably have a few thousand fans over there

i seen 3 people in the city centre in the afternoon wearing kilts, and 1 person at work. had no idea that there was a scotland game on otherwise i would have put it on (not really a football fan)

I dont wear hose as i dont have brogues, ive got a plain set of steel to cap boots but the laces are not long enough to do the wrap around the leg thing.

Ive also got a nice pair of nike trainers that are black that seem to kinda go with the kilt, they look like shoes at a glance.

Normally i just wear some kind of t shirt ontop, sometimes plain black. Not got a shirt yet but plan on getting a shirt the the top part laces up :-)

Really want to wear my kilt since its been washed and ive pressed the pleats as best i could but i dont think it will go with my skate trainers which are bright yellow and black

I was once in Amsterdam when the Tartan Army came a callin' on the Dutch. You're not wrong about the atmosphere Jimmy, it's electric, There was a sea of Kilts and Bagpipes in every boozer and the Dutch were almost as nuts.

Fascinating thing though. There were Scotland Blue and Netherlands Orange shirts everywhere, all getting along soundly and despite the river of beer that was flowing amongst them, not a sniff of trouble. Unfortunately the same can't be said for a minority of travelling England supporters.
