Almost finished carving. Your thoughts?

Everyone seemed to like my elk-annular brooch so I thought I'd get your reaction to the carved brooch I'm working on for the Games in Estes Park, CO.
The carving still needs a little touch-up, then I will polish it and flame the edges of the carving. So what do you think?

I think we need to arrange a trade...

I like it, and I like your work. You come up with inventive yet graceful ways to make something unique. Bravo!

That is awesome. Very nice design. Is that bone or is it a knot from some kind of wood?
Can't wait to see the finished product.

Looks like an elk crown or rosette, ie.. the base of the horn.

You nailed it Taygrd, I've also heard that part of the elk antler called the 'bud', but it is the base of the antler.
Yes, Nighthawk, you should come to the Lone Peak Festival so you can see all eight of the ones I'm bringing. I'll also have several caubeens, including one made out of doeskin of which I am inordinately proud.

It is a thing of beauty. Do you use a 'Dremel' or some such and how long does it take? Also how much does the finished item weigh and how do you attach the pin?
Questions, questions, questions - I know and I am sorry. One last - Do you think that you could do a Clan Crest Badge?
Regards
Chas

Yes Chas, I drew the design on the computer using Photo Shop then transferred it onto the prepared elk bud. After that I used my Dremel. I'm not certain of the finished weight, several ounces anyway. I used a drill and epoxy to attach the legs of the pin. Finally, I am planning to try an XMTS badge next. When it's done I'll post a pic.
Glad you like it,
Ron
