Every year a few of us commemorate the tragedies of September Eleventh by hiking in the mountains above Farmington Utah. Nine years ago a retired veteran placed an American flag on a rock outcropping 1350 feet above the valley floor. 1350 feet is approximately the height of the World trade centers. In the years that followed the trail was improved including a north and south route of approximately two miles each way. Being the tenth anniversary our event was well attended by around eighty hikers. Among them for his fifth year was my friend Damien Darcy. Damien was an EMT in New York city and helped evacuate survivors. He escaped the collapse of Tower two by about ten minutes but lost over 50 of his closest friends. This year we enjoyed perfect weather with temps in the 60’s and 70’s and exceptional visibility out over the Great Salt Lake.
