Victoria SteamPunk Exposition II
OK, what you ask, is Steampunk.
"Steampunk is the Scholar's science fiction."
"Born from the writings of H.G Welles, Mary shelley, and Jules Verne and inspired by the inventions of Nikola Tesla, Steampunk offers a melding or late 1800's aesthetic with scientific discovery and empirialistic optomisim." - Dr. Grymm, "1000 Steampunk creations"
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, it seems has one of the largest and most active Steampunk groups in N. America.
This year its second annual exposition was held in the Victorian home, Craigdarroch Castle.
Craigdarroch Castle was built in 1890 by coal magnate Robert Dunsmuir. This marvolous house was the perfect venue for this event.

The main entrance hall.

Bobbie and I were unable to attend last year because for some strange reason the organizers scheduled it on the same weekend as the Victoria Highland Games.
We are very excited that this year we were able to make it.
Here are just a few of the photos we took today.
Some attendee's awaiting the doors to open.

Once inside there were vendors and exhibitors galore.

Here is a home built Theramin. This is a musical instrument played by waving your hands through electromagnetic fields.

Shortly it was time for refreshments on the lawn.

The croquet on the lawn and plenty of room to spread a blanket for a picnic.

Looks like fun! Were there any other kilties in attendance?
Interesting how amenable a kilt, dress Argyll jacket, and hunting sporran are to being Steampunkified...

What a wonderful, fun event. And a great looking house as a backdrop.
Steampunkified - great word as well.

In that case Steve, you can wear anything you wish, whenever you wish, however you want!
What fun and super pictures of an event, well beyond my ken.
Well that blows us thinking of you as THE traditionalist... next we'll be seeing you in a utilikilt...

Oh worry not, just getting into the swing of the theme, really.

Splendid, Steve!
You two look great. I wasn't aware that you were a steampunk fan. That really looks like a delightful evening in a fantastic venue.
I'm currently starting the planning for my steampunk outfit, but I've discovered the backstory is taking at least as long as the actual design and fabrication.
