    Victoria SteamPunk Exposition II

OK, what you ask, is Steampunk.

"Steampunk is the Scholar's science fiction."
"Born from the writings of H.G Welles, Mary shelley, and Jules Verne and inspired by the inventions of Nikola Tesla, Steampunk offers a melding or late 1800's aesthetic with scientific discovery and empirialistic optomisim." - Dr. Grymm, "1000 Steampunk creations"

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, it seems has one of the largest and most active Steampunk groups in N. America.

This year its second annual exposition was held in the Victorian home, Craigdarroch Castle.
Craigdarroch Castle was built in 1890 by coal magnate Robert Dunsmuir. This marvolous house was the perfect venue for this event.

    The main entrance hall.

Bobbie and I were unable to attend last year because for some strange reason the organizers scheduled it on the same weekend as the Victoria Highland Games.
We are very excited that this year we were able to make it.

Here are just a few of the photos we took today.

Some attendee's awaiting the doors to open.

Once inside there were vendors and exhibitors galore.

Here is a home built Theramin. This is a musical instrument played by waving your hands through electromagnetic fields.

Shortly it was time for refreshments on the lawn.

The croquet on the lawn and plenty of room to spread a blanket for a picnic.

    Re: Victoria SteamPunk Exposition II

Back inside Bobbie and I were amazed by the variety and imagination of the outfits.

Not to be outdone Bobbie and I dressed for the event.

Here is Bobbie on the porch.

So, just what does a kiltie wear to a Steampunk event? Well, unfortunatly I had the camera and there are very few of me today. But here is one of Bobbie and I together

    "Warning Will Robinson, Warning"

I am breaking about every rule of Traditional Scottish Highland Dress. Not only am I wearing a Pith Helmet, but also Riding boots, white hose, a wing collar shirt as day wear, and I'm carrying a high frequency blaster on my hip.

The day and evening were a lot of fun. Both Bobbie and I really enjoyed the chance for a flight of fancy and to see the imagination and amount of thought and work that went into this event.

I'll try to get some more pictures up of the other kilts at the event, and some more of the other attendees but right now I need to get horizontal in my bed.

    A high frequency blaster, eh?

A MK 4C(L)---left handed version---- with the three pressure trigger, if I am not mistaken, with the eight prism(vastly superior to the more usual six prism)SUSAT sight accurate to one sixteenth of an inch at 8000 nautical miles, rather obsolete these days,but----- hummmm........

In that case Steve, you can wear anything you wish, whenever you wish, however you want!

What fun and super pictures of an event, well beyond my ken.

Looks like fun! Were there any other kilties in attendance?

Interesting how amenable a kilt, dress Argyll jacket, and hunting sporran are to being Steampunkified...

What a wonderful, fun event. And a great looking house as a backdrop.

Steampunkified - great word as well.

    Splendid, Steve!

You two look great. I wasn't aware that you were a steampunk fan. That really looks like a delightful evening in a fantastic venue.

I'm currently starting the planning for my steampunk outfit, but I've discovered the backstory is taking at least as long as the actual design and fabrication.
