For Ontario Freemasons
By order of the MW GM of the GLCPOO, kilts are no longer welcome in lodge.
All DDGMs have been advised by the Grand Secretary.
This really blows. I'm due to sit in the east in 4 years and wanted to do so kilted. Guess not now :-(

Re: For Ontario Freemasons
Was a reason given for this decision? (Not a Mason myself, just wondered what the problem might be.)

Re: For Ontario Freemasons
I've sent a request for clarification to our communications officer. Interesting, considering the M. W. G. M. comes from Kilwinning Lodge No. 64 where all officers wear the kilt, and that they honoured him (in kilts) at his installation last summer.
I'm wondering about this one.

Re: For Ontario Freemasons
What !!!!!!!! Lodge is the major reason why I started wearing a kilt. Unless they have a really really good reason this is ridiculous but then again in the past few years Grand Lodge has done a few things to make me think that this one does not surprise me.

Last night I read the communique to our DDGM from MW Bro Shand dated from just a few days ago. He asked the GS as our DDGM was always kilted in lodge.
So Rev., when you are proven wrong, will you publically admit it in this thread?

Re: For Ontario Freemasons
Addendum: the reason given is that kilted attire is not:
1) a business suit
2) a tuxedo
3) a tailed, white tie tuxedo
Therefore dies not meet the dress code outlined in the book of constitution.

I'm still fascinated in hearing this from a Grand Master who sat as a kilted officer as he went through the chairs. I'd like to know the details and specifics before responding much, but you can imagine that I shan't be very supportive of any ban.

Re: For Ontario Freemasons
our Lodge Alba #315 in Washington State is kilted as part of our charter. The Grand Lodge list us as a specialty lodge if I am correct? But Iknow several people in other Washington Lodges who wear kilts. If memory serves me FreeMasonary was started in Scotland in 1598? whatbetter way to honor tradition than to wear a kilt. Please keep us informed as to his reasoning? Suggest a change to the charter.

Absolutely, although I don't think it was "wrong" to say that I was wondering or that I'd check it out, just looking for more details because I'm very puzzled.
My own interpretation is that kilt can be a part of either a business suit or any other order of dress, and that indeed none of the orders listed talk about what is worn from the waist down.
I'm still very puzzled. The current Grand Master is a personal friend from many years back when we were both junior line officers. The Immediate Past Grand Master is known to have turned up kilted at a variety of events, although I do not know if he wore one in the open Lodge. I also note the existence of a registered Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario tartan.
It makes me wonder if my clerical collar should also be replaced by a tie.
It all seems very odd to me.

Re: For Ontario Freemasons
I have just spoken to my district secretary and he has heard nothing about not wearing a kilt in lodge. Bill I completely understand I may have to reconsider membership in certain lodges.
