    Burns Supper in Cental Texas

Just found out the Central Texas Area Museum is sponsoring a Robert Burns
Supper at the Stagecoach Inn in Salado, Tx on January 28, 2012. You can call the Museum for details 254 947-5232. This is the first time this has been tried in this area and I for one will try to make it work.

Very interesting! I might try to pencil that into my schedule.

How did you find out about this? Do they have any info online? I'm wondering if it will be a well-organized formal event, or what.

i'm a member of the museum's supporters. Here is what the newsletter says, CTAM Annual General Meeting Jan 28, 2012...starting at noon there is a social, then board meeting, annual general meeting etc, ending at 5pm. Then at 7pm a social time, and 7:30-9 is the Burn's Supper Celebration.

Burns Supper piper and address to the haggis presenterwill be LTC Martin Dougherty, USAR, from St. Louis MO. Martin is a truama doctor in St. Louis who comes down to work at the Emergency Room at Darnall Army Hospital, Fort Hood every month and for two weeks of annual training.
Martin picked up the bagpipes at age 8, and later served in a Highland Rgeiment for 13 years before immirgrating to the US. He came to St. Louis and entered Medical School. He then accepted a commission in the US Army. He is married and has 5 children several of whom have competed in our Salado Highland Danceing competitions. When asked to do this, Martin said he made sure he would be in town!

AGM Conference registration is $20.00. The presentation of the haggis is included in the fee. The Burns Supper is formal and dinner selections are by the individual menu choice. A cash bar will be available.

Please clip form and return to CTAM, PO Box 36, Salado, TX 76571.

Sorry but no information is given for Burns Supper only. Since Jeff said he would try to organize one for the xmarker in Central Texas, I am non-commital to this one, until I hear more from Jeff.

Re: Burns Supper in Cental Texas

I was at the Wee Scot's Shop in Salado yesterday and talked with the Museum folks there. The Burns Supper is open to all comers. There is nothing yet on the website but I was told that tickets would be available in the next week or so just call the museum for the information. I'm leaning toward going. The ceremonials, haggis, piper and poetry are taken care of by the organizers.

I was going to say that, knowing the museum they would take your $20.00 and let the Stagecoach charge you for dinner. So expect to pay about $40.00 for the evening per person.
