    Blue & Gold tartans- again

Since two of the sports teams I support wear the same colours Blue & Gold (LA Galaxy and West Virginia University) and those are likewise the State Colors of the states in which I've lived my whole life (West Virginia and California) my eye was struck just now by the lovely University of Glasgow ex-hire kilts I just saw on Ebay

The other nice Blue & Gold tartan that I've seen is that of the University of California Riverside Pipe Band

Any other nice Blue & Gold tartans out there? I would especially appreciate kilt photos. Thanks!

BTW "Blue & Gold" are the State Colors of the following US states:

    Arizona
    California
    Louisiana
    New Jersey
    New York
    Oregon
    Pennsylvania
    West Virginia

    and of the following Universities:

    University of Delaware
    Notre Dame
    Southern University
    Ithaca College
    Univerity of Pittsburgh
    Brigham Young University
    West Virginia University
    US Naval Academy
    University of California

Here's a photo of a blue and gold (Holyrood Gold) tartan that I find to be very striking, though it may have a bit too much red in it for your purposes:

    Richard

Being born in WV and with most of my extended family living there, including my parents, I have a soft spot in my heart for the mountaineer state. When my parents were in town for Thanksgiving, my mother showed me an article from one of the WV newspapers about a WVU student who won a school sanctioned and srts faculty judged competition to design a WVU tartan, which has officially been adopted as well as registered. Attached was a photo of the student who won the contest wearing a scarf woven in the tartan, which is predominantly white with dominant blue and gold stripes (if I remember correctly), a fairly simple design and color palette, but still striking and attractive anyway. I do not believe it had yet been formally woven into true tartan material, though. Unfortunatley I believe we discarded the article after my parents left, as I was not particulalry interested in having a white predominant kilt regardless of the WV affiliation and my background. If I can find it I will copy and post, but you might want to google it to see if you can find out more independently, if that might interest you.

Not a university-affiliated tartan, but the profession does educate folks if they misbehave...

    The Law Enforcement Memorial tartan:

This photo also illustrates the differences between a kilt and a quilt.

As the son of a native Arizonan, I can't say I've ever seen any reference that the state's colours are blue and gold. When I was a boy, we were taught the "5 C's" of Arizona -- Cattle, Cotton, Copper, Citrus and Climate. If any colour belongs to Arizona, it would be Copper.

According to these sites, the Arizona state colors are blue and gold, cajunscot, and it has to do with the blue and gold, or yellow, of our state flag:
"Arizona State Flag - About the Arizona Flag, its adoption and history"
    http://www.netstate.com/states/symb/flags/az_flag.htm
    "Arizona State Colors"
    http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/Arizo...te_colors.html

I have no idea if they are credible, it could be myth, but I have heard blue and gold, also. *Looked again at the first link and there are citations for that.*

"The five C's": I plan on growing a few cotton plants, this would be a native variety, coming up over the next couple of years.

Ted: The Arizona State flag has a Copper star in the center. One of the names of Arizona is "The Copper State". My great-uncle had a motor court on Route 66 in Ash Fork named "Copper State Court".

I just looked at the AZ Revised Statutes, and it confirms:

    Title 41 - State Government.
CHAPTER 4.1 - HISTORY, ARCHAEOLOGY AND STATE EMBLEMS.
    Article 5 - State Emblems.
    Sections 41-851 & 41-852.
    41-851. State colors; state flag

    A. Blue and old gold shall be the colors of the state. The blue shall be the same shade as that of the flag of the United States.

But as I said before, I can't say it's widespread knowledge in Arizona. I asked my Dad this morning, and he said, "We're the Copper State".

Ya, the copper name is all over the place.

Did a little more looking, and the "Bola Tie" is the state neckwear, so I will be looking for one of those.

I wanted to look up the state insect for a research project I am currently working on and it is the Two-tailed Swallowtail (Papilio multicaudatus), which is where I came across the Net State site.
    "Official State Insects"

And this site, "Two-tailed SwallowtailButterfly- Arizona State Butterfly."

Just to be clear: You switch over to the quilt after Labor Day, right?
