Hello from Orlando, FL!
Hello Kilties!
'Nother new guy here. Long story short, I've been an Anglophile for a number of years, starting when I was a wee lad watching Monty Python.
Time marches on, and in the fullness of time I learned that I have both Irish blood (Dad's side) and Scot-French (Mom's side). The kilt has intrigued me for quite a while, but I never explored the garment.
Flash-forward to October 2011; the wife and I are the Lady of the Lakes RenFaire. I've just "graduated" beer school (11:45am and beers with 8% or greater abv!) and stumbled by the GotKilt? booth. The Pride of Scotland tartan caught my eye. I asked SWMBO what her thoughts were, and got a resounding "Ooo-Kay ..."
She liked the Loud McCloud, but that pattern does not work on me, at all. I grabbed a predominately green tartan (I don't recall the name), and though that was better, it still wasn't boom, know what I mean?
I took the Pride of Scotland, wrapped it around meself, and knew I'd found a new garment.
I got home, started researching in earnest, and discovered this site. Unbelievable information overload! I've been reading, clicking and watching almost every day since that fateful day. I've learned so much and realize I have much more to understand.
Taking the recommendations of many on this site, I purchased a Works Kilt from Sport Kilt. It's the US Navy tartan, and quite a nice casual kilt at that. I'm quite pleased with it, and the two kilts get worn mostly on the weekends, with the occasional foray into the office on Fridays.
I wanted a wool 8-yard, so the search began. I found a stunningly beautiful Burnett's & Struth in the Mackenzie Modern tartan and jumped. Mymymy ... very nice indeed.
My next kilt will be a made-to-measure from Matt Newsome; North Carolina isn't that far from Orlando ...
Perhaps Barb and I will have to do business one day ... at this rate, I should have contact with all of the forum supporters in the next few years!!
OK, enough of that ... Thank you for the great resource that is this site, I continue to learn and grow in this culture. I'm proud of my blood-lines, and want to share that heritage well. You my Friends will help me to do that.
See you all in the boards!
