    Zoomorphic Celtic design

Has anyone looked at Zoomorphic Celtic design in Kilt Pins, Belts, Buckles and Bracelets, as opposed to what is termed traditional.
Zoomorphics is the use of animal and bird forms in symbolism and graphic representation.Similar to the way the Inuit culture uses them. I have seen this on some Celtic standing stones.
There is here a company in Scotland called Centaur Design that has some fine
    examples of Celtic Zoomorphic accessories.
What is the thought of the Forum? I myself like the idea and have my eye on an unusual and eyecatching kilt Pin.

    Re: Zoomorphic Celtic design

I happened across Centaur Design about a year ago and, um, borrowed the pattern from one of their unisex bracelets as the basis for an armband tattoo. I love the idea of incorporating zoomoorphic figures into kilt accessories! Once funds become available for it, I am considering a custom zoomorphic sporran.

Go to ebay and type in iona silver in the search line. There is some beautiful stuff there for all kinds of money including this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-JOHN...item519d3a88a1 which, if you look at it closely seems to have a critter at each end of the circle and seems to have a dragon as the pin.

It will likely go for less than the current stuff at Celtic Dragon that seems to be copying from Iona.

This one has been around and will be again - I obtained one for less than this offer:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Ster...item3ca40e6999
    It is beautiful.

This one is a design that has come several times:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTIQUE-IONA...item4cfbdce723
I would not get it because my wife does not like snakes. It is very fine though and the same designs will come at different prices at different times.

    Re: Zoomorphic Celtic design

Several years ago I purchased a zoomorphic kilt pin called either a "pictish" or "Finnish" beast. A dog or wolf based design, quite different, used to wear it a lot when wearing kilt pins. Never did see another worn. May have been from Gaelsong when they first started up.

I have a zoomorphic hound kilt pin, in silver, that I love....

I don't have a picture around at the moment, so I'm guilty of violating Xmarks protocol. Bad Flyrod.

I'm a fan too! Here's my Dog Kilt pin. Flyrod6057, is yours similar/same? Just reread your post, mine is pewter, so ours would likely be different from each other.

    the Celtic hound...

It's horizontal here, but I wear it vertical. Long axis parallel to the apron fringe.

Have a belt buckle in the same design. I got mine in brass as I like to wear it with a brown day belt

    Re: Zoomorphic Celtic design

    I love zoomorphic stuff!!

Here's the sporran I always wear, approx 100 years old

Here are a couple other vintage zoomorphic cantles, first by R G Lawrie, Glasgow

and this one, sold by Bugpiper on Ebay

The above sporran was part of a "suite". Here are the matching waistbelt and crossbelt buckles and plaid brooch, which I used to own, but I sold them to a piper in Scotland. I wore that waistbelt regularly for over 20 years.

To me, the most stunning example of zoomorphic ornament used recently is this wonderful engraving pattern used by Peter Henderson, Glasgow. This set of Hendersons is from the 1950s
