Beheading of Robert Burns Staue in New Zealand
The 8feet statue of our most loved poet was vandalised in Timaru, South Island. The head of the statue which stood in the Botanic Gardens is missing and £500 reward is offered. The statue is of Italian marble and was unveiled in 1913.
Why would a statue of Robert Burns be vandalised in such a place. I always thought there was a great feeling for Burns in New Zealand

What a waste of time. Idle hands ya know. I can't believe that these vandals couldnt possibly find something better to do. Oh well...

Very sad .... As time passes, and I read more and more of such things happening, the more I come to believe that the movie Idiocracy may be more than just a comedy, but a glimpse of our future.

Just a wild guess here, but I doubt it was anything personal against Burns or his legacy. Some people just love to vandalize things, and the heads of statues are always popular.

Yeah, vandals don't really care what they vandalise r desecrate - is just the 'fun' of destroying something.
In my own opinion, they don't use their own heads, so beheading a statue puts them on an even keel. There's nothing between their ears...

I have been equally appalled to see cemeteries desecrated as some people have removed the metal. Vandalizing monuments and desecrating cemeteries should be harshly dealt with.

Re: Beheading of Robert Burns Staue in New Zealand
It must have been more than one person. If the statue is 8 foot tall and it is standing on a plinth of at least that height or more, then it must have taken at least two people. The head must have been 17 to 18 foot in the air. Someone must have been very well prepared for a "random act of vandalism".
Was no one seen carrying block and tackle and a ladder through the streets? And a very heavy block of Italian marble?
Regards
Chas

If they did that in some places they would lose their heads!
