Tyger's New Bonnie Heather Jacket/Coat Alteration

I have been wanting a jacket or coat to wear with my kilts. So far, I have not needed anything. However, the day will come when I will need a jacket for casual wear.

I have been looking for good used tweed jackets that could be altered to suit me. My size is 48L, and in 2 years I have not come across a jacket that I would invest in.

Jos A. Bank is always having sales, so I bought a Harris Tweed, and I am sending it to our own Bonnie Heather (bonniekilts.com) for surgery. This jacket fits me well, and is perfect for our project that has been in planning stages for about 1 year.

We are seeking a look that departs from the usual high-cut and swept-back style that one usually sees worn with today's kilts.

    Just a note here:

We have started this topic as the jacket is heading toward Bonnie Heather. Actually, there are 2 jackets.

I'm familiar with those JosABanks sales...when they mark stuff down, they don't fool around, they mark it DOWN...so I assume you got a serious deal on the jacket. I had no idea that they carried any Harris, though, so you got a double-good deal.

    Looking forward to the results!

    I got 4.

I have a closet rack full of suits and jackets, so I am nothing but foolish to get so many more, but I am just like my Compatriotic Fish: I love a feeding frenzy!

    Edit:
OK, to tell the truth I got 8. I just thought: one of each color (4 colors) in each of 2 button styles (2-button and 3-button) makes 8. But I indend to cut only the 3-button jackets and keep the 2-button jackets for business wear.

This sounds like an excelent project, and I can't wait to see the results, which will surely be spectacular!

I've always been fond of the jackets with more square-cut fronts, for whatever reason.

It will be exciting to see how this project evolves!

I love Ken MacLeay's "Highlander's of Scotland" (obviously), and have been looking at several jacket styles as inspiration as well, but more for "dress" wear.

Please keep us posted on progress.

I will keep updating this project as it comes along, and I hope that Bonnie puts her stitches in as well. I am mailing the jacket to her this week.

I don't know how many projects she has going right now, and I will be out of town for a while.

Thanks for tuning in, and we will be keeping in touch.

This is going to be fun.

An Xmarker who is now seldom active posted about a similar jacket a while back. His, however, was off the rack. Here is a pic of it and a link to the thread. Keep us posted on the progress of your project!

Threads close after they are inactive for ~6 months or so. I'm sure a mod could provide the exact time frame.
