Re: Pat Boone in a kilt.

Chris: I remember seeing that movie as a kid, but I don't remember Pat Boone being in it, let alone in a kilt.

Nice looking outfit. He looks almost as good as I do in Scottish garb, especially in the real fuzzy shot.

Thanks for posting, ... and for reminding me how old I am.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

He was playing Alec MacEwen and I think it is the correct clan tartan. No doubt one of the experts here can confirm.

I must say, not bad Pat...not bad at all. You can see the pleated front in the piper's plaid they utilised for his 'costume.' I believe Pat is wearing the Clan MacKenzie tartan in 'modern' colours. At least it is rather well done, and not the dreaded 'Brigadoon' look!

    Thanks for sharing,

Pity it isn't in 3D like the Brendan Fraser version!

Re: Pat Boone in a kilt.

When it was shown on TV when I was a kid it always kicked off in Iceland or wherever. It was years later that I realised the uncut film spends the first 30 minutes in Scotland. It doesn't really add to the real story and an understandable edit.

    Thanks for sharing,
It wasn't "MacEwan's" kilt. He had to borrow it from his roommate.

I never understood why the producers saw the need for some of the differences between book and film. ie: Lidenbrock (book) vs Lindenbrook (movie)... Axel (book) vs Alec (movie). I suppose if I watched the film again I could pick up a bunch more. Haven't seen that version of the film in 30 years.

There are many changes from the original French version (Voyage au centre de la Terre) which in fact started the story in Hamburg not Edinburgh (perhaps because of the political climate at the time). I read the English translation when I was a kid. A lot is left out and changed in the movie, but still much better than any of the later versions.
In the first part of this movie there are street scenes with a pipe band and the occasional kilted pedestrian. I may try and extract a clip and post it up somewhere. Don't hold your breath though.

    Chris.
