piperdbh's new tyger buckle
Not long ago I dreamed up a project which I could not produce alone, so I contacted Tyger of Tyger Forge fame. We exchanged particulars and he made this for me:

It's a belt buckle with my initials, d, b, and h imposed. I've used this as a sort of shorthand signature for several years, and now I can proudly display it to the world. I'm going to try to use it as ID at the bank.
Anyway, the buckle is copper with pewter lettering. There's a special process (which I don't understand. I call it magic.) that Tyger used to produce the "pitted" background, which I really like. He'll chip in here soon and tell you all about it.
Here's the back of the buckle:

The belt slips through the big ring, and catches on the clasp. It's the easiest belt-clasping system I've ever experienced. And that's not saying much.
I'm very pleased with this buckle, and have plans to commission another one with my college seal once I get the college tartan process up and running.
Tyger does excellent work, is a peach of a communicator, and is open to pretty much any kind of design.

Congratulations, Piperdbh, it sounds very nice.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Well done, David! And Tyger!
Yes, Mark's work is well beyond first-rate; you can't really appreciate it fully until you gird it about your loins, though. And Mark himself is a positive genius, as well as one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to come across. And crazy, too, but in a good way.
...and just to set the record straight, I got the older, more evil brother:

Re: piperdbh's new tyger buckle
For anybody new to the forum, my buckles are advertized for sale by the Scottish Tartans Museum and Gift Shop located in Franklin NC, and on the web. They always have a few buckles in stock, and they can work with you in finding what you want.
David, I am pleased that you like your buckle.
I was apprehensive about getting all 3 letters to behave as equals. I stretch and bend the metal, and bending and stretching 3 ways is infinitely less controllable, and less predictable, than bending it 1 way or 2. It could have been a disaster. (Ryan, if I am a little crazy, it is because of that daygone Cthulhu Elder Sign. I have not been the same since. ).
Here are a couple of pictures. Pay no attention to the background (hahahaha). The background is a thick, rich, RR bonnet. (Dig those colors, man!).
DBH, front of buckle.

DBH, side-sighting lets one better see the relief.

DBH, back of buckle, I never finish the buckle backs because that would remove all evidence of heat, hammer, and other steps that I use to fabricate.

Let me say- as a disclamer- that no money changed hands. I only made this buckle for David because I wanted to make it, and he agreed.

Love those pictures, Mark. Excelent! I'm going to have to try out this side-sighting technique
Also worth mentioning is that the backs of the buckles are so awesome, because the fabrication evidence is still there!
Here's a little bit of the back of my Chi Rho buckle; kind-of a crappy picture, but I'll take better ones later:

And Mark, Don't worry- The Madness will never pass. :cthulhusmiley:

As a further disclamer, I'd like to note that I don't believe in money either; I don't think it exists.

Oh, it exists all right. Even if we don't see much of it. If they get their way, it isn't going to be around much longer. This could easily go OT (on topic), so I suggest that we check with David to see if that is OK with him.
