An ensemble I just threw together....

    *Waves hello to everyone*

I haven't been kilting up for quite a long time. The main reason is that I've lost several pounds, and 2 of my 3 tailored kilts feel as though I'm wearing a feed sack...
Another reason is that I was a bit tired of wearing the same stuff with my kilts all the time.

When me, my wife and kids were getting ready to go meet my mother and friends at the local Scottish pub (The Highland still house) to see a very close, longtime family friend play a gig, I knew I had to kilt up, but didn't want to do too little, or somehow go overboard.
    Anyways....Here's what I wore.

I have to admit that I was quite pleased with how I looked, and felt as though I beat the odds by being the rare hetero, Caucasian male who was able to dress himself well, without female intervention :-)
My wife and I are both musical types who lean towards the hard rock/metal side of things, and I like to represent that in subtle ways while going out and doing family oriented activities.

I look at these pictures and think I could do better, but can't quite put my finger on what exactly...
Does anybody feel motivated to offer suggestions and/or constructive criticism??

I know scrunched-down hose with boots is a popular look, but I can't help thinking pulled-up hose with flashes would look better with this outfit. Other than that, very cool! (Are those real knuckle dusters mounted on that sporran?)

BTW, our wives have similar tastes. We have one of those light-up star thingies hanging in the corner near our TV, too...!

    I agree on the hose.

I feel like a dork, posting this photo all over the board this morning, but thought you might like an example.

Here's my son last Saturday, with black hose and shaggy handknit flashes of the same color in a black on black look.

I think a shorter leather jacket would help as well, while still maintaining your chosen look.

You look fine, but seeing as you asked...

If you're going to wear boots with the kilt, I think it looks better with the hose rather than regular socks because they are a bit more substantial. Scrunched or rolled would be fine. The black leather jacket seems to call for a black leather sporran, though you get bonus bad a$$ points for the knuckle duster. If you like the plain kilt pin, a bigger one looks more germane to the kilt. I got a 3" horse blanket pin on eBay for about $3 (including shipping).

not bad at all, but the normal socks look a bit off center. Maybe some longer ones and folded over the tops of the boots.

    Nice carpet BTW.

i think turbokittie's son is on the right track by substituting traditional accoutrements with metal ones. he's got me thinking about making a silver wolf kilt pin and leather studded flashes. kilts are remarkably versatile--all you have to do is change a few things to go from formal to subversive.

I like the outfits... but concur about the sox...

not so sure about the shiny accessory on the sporran...

looks cool, but they're quite illegal in many places, a felony - go straight to jail to possess at all, in California...

Oregon law only addresses brass knuckles if they're concealed so far as I can tell, so compliance in that situation...

a fine example of checking your local laws....

    thoroughly...
