White House black tie guidelines?

Anyone have a copy of the official guidelines for black or white tie events at the White House? I'm guessing they list highland dress as an option?

There is a kid at Granite City, Illinois high school being told that a kilt is not appropriate for prom because guys should wear trousers and girls should wear dresses...

I don't know about the white house,but I have a book called " A Gentlemen's Wardrobe " That covers conventional and highland dress for all occasions. It was from the mid to late 60's by an british publisher(I am at work) they use and quote Sir Edward Duke of Winsor for examples on what to wear when.It worked for me in highschool with the same problem.

Unless that is the 'source' being cited in the first place, for denying the wearing of Highland dress. In which case, by all means, inquire from the White House protocol officer (or whatever the title is), as to what constitutes 'black tie' at the Executive Mansion.

I have just emailed the White House and asked them. They say that they receive many thousands of emails each day and directed me to various policy subpages.

Hopefully, because I am from overseas and asking a question that is out of the norm, I will get a reply.

Ah, prom time!

I wore my kilt at my senior prom! However, I was wearing white hose...much to my chagrin now! Haha!
