Not bad. If you will PM me I will try to dredge up a pattern for the first sporran I ever made, which I am still wearing. It is fairly easy to make and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it. When I have time I will ppost a photo.

Here are photos of my sporran. I have been wearing it for nearly thirty years. It was made from a pattern based on the one in Scotty Thompson's book, with modifications. My friend Don Malcolm made the changes. It is not difficult to make. You have to use flexible leather, in this case tanned elk that I got from Tandy Leather many, many years ago, in fact well before I made the sporran. The good folks at Tandy can advise you on what to buy. I should have opened the flap to give you an idea of what it looks like but did not. It does resemble the flap you made for your sporran.

There is a gusset, which makes it very roomy without being bulky. Aside from the leather you will need either a lock stitch tool with good waxed thread or an awl with the appropriate needles, some grommets and a grommet setter, an edge slicker, some dye and some sort of closure. The laces are extra large boot laces. You will have to experiment on how to put them in to keep the sporran closed. I cannot describe how to do that except that trial and error worked for me. It also helps to put a finish on the leather. Don't make the mistake I made which is to use the standard dye sold in shoe stores or at Wal-Mart. It is not durable. Get some good quality dye and finish at Tandy leather.

You will need to stitch it inside out. There is a gusset in front, which you can shape however you like. Do not leave out the gusset as it gives stability to the front of the sporran

You can decorate the flap with Celtic designs or studs, whatever you fancy. As I said, it is a very roomy sporran and you can get your hand in it to get stuff out.

Anyone interested in the pattern should PM me with your mailing address.

    Questions are welcome
