Haven't been Kilting much - Important decision to make.

So, I've lost A LOT of weight over the last year. So much so, in fact, that I sold one of my Kilts because it was way too big for me.

I have a couple of Kilts left that I love. However, they're at a point where even on the tightest setting I HAVE to wear a belt to keep them from slipping down over time. And the belt leaves those nice pleats on the front because I have to cinch in so much fabric.

The one Kilt I had that still fit well... I loaned it to a local theatre company and it got torn. They are giving me money to order a Stillwater custom fitted to me, so I am not too worried. I'll have a slightly nicer Kilt than the one that was lost and they can repair that one and keep it in their costuming.

To the important decision: I do not intend to gain the weight back. I genuinely feel that having Kilts that fit me when I am in shape will keep me in shape. (The horror of not being able to fasten your Kilt is terrible. I know.)

Should I suck it up and sell the two Kilts I love and use the money towards buying some more that actually fit me well?

    It's a big step.

Sounds like a no brainer. And congrats on losing the weight!

If a kilt is "only clothing", then sell them. You can still love them - just from a distance.

If they stay in the closet they are of no use. Seems Spock would say "The logical move here would be to sell them and reinvest in replacements." Congrats on the weight loss effort.

I have to agree, no reason to have clothes hanging in your closet to just look at. Sell them so you can buy something to actually wear.

Depends on how much you have invested in the two "too big" kilts, both monetarily and emotionally, as well as just exactly how much too big are we talking. Sounds like they could be easily adjusted to fit again with some buckle/strap relocations without really causing too much trouble or cost. Then they could always be modified back to bigger in the future if/when you put on some of that weight you recently lost.
If no strong attachment or financial investment, and they are beyond what you think adjustment might cost or be able to accomodate, then sell them and get something else you can love.

Congrats on the weight loss, assuming it was intentional.

Good job on the weight loss.
I agree with FM, keep them if they can be adjusted.
Also if they are a tartan that has family meaning and could be passed to someone.
If not...sell them and get something that fits.

Depending on how much you need to take in you could try moving the LH strap and RH buckle.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Barb T posted something about this, as i recall, where she adjusted for 10" of weight loss; or, you could sell the old kilts, buy Barb's book, material and make new ones !

Like others have said, is there an emotional attachments or are these passed down from your family? If it is just the tartan that matters and not the actual kilt itself, I say sell and get a newly made kilt of the same tartan. But if they are heirlooms ...keep them and adjust the buckles.
