day sgian dubh, with a subtle modern twist

    Hi all,

Some photos of my latest sgian dubh.

This is made from 01 tool steel with antler scales and leather liners. The sheath is made from leather and wax dipped for watertightness.

The twist... I used a full tang contrstruction rather than a stick tang and the little lanyard hole isn't really traditional. But it is useful for using it as a knife rather than show.

    Enough Blether, heres some pics!

    Comments Welcome.

I'm a fan of full tang sgians, but I think is the first one with antler scales that I've seen. Nice work.

Nice and elegant in its simplicity...nice to see a knife that you can actually use for a knife.

Just out of curiosity, how long is the whole thing and how long is the blade?

    Thanks guys,

The Blade is 3.5" long and the handle is 3". It's just long enough to use with a full (four fingered) grip.
It sits quite comfortably in the hose as well.

Very nice. I have been considering doing this with my Coldsteel Braveheart. I'm glad to see it can be done.
    Somebody ought to.

Wow, this looks great. The simplicity really makes it stand out and in my opinion looks a lot better than the "uber dressy" sgian dubhs
