I happened across this interesting article with great photos on the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band site. The band has worn clan Fraser in "ancient" colours since its inception, but a couple years ago the band decided it was time for new kilts and a new "look". According to the article they worked with ALD Kiltmakers in Glasgow and Marton Mills and ended up only changing one colour in the tartan, changing the blue from a pastel blue to a dark blue. Here's a link to the photo showing the comparison between their old and new tartans. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfupamr...7624569097711/ Goes to show how a tartan can be completely transformed by the change of a single colour! There are also photos of band members posing in their new kilts: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfupamr...7624569097711/ BTW the article mentions something I'd not heard before, that part of the kiltmaking process is hanging the kilt up for several days.
