USS Iowa - Home at last
The USS Iowa BB61 is now at her permanent berth in San Pedro Ca. She was greeted upon her arrival very appropriately as you can see in this pic.

I had the great pleasure and honor of working on her while she was here in the bay area before going to her new home.
She will be open to the public as a museum ship on July 7. She is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

And now I'm on the right coast instead of the left. I had friends stationed onboard her.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

Nothing more impressive than a battleship! I've seen the USS Massachusetts and the USS North Carolina. When I'm in California next summer for a family wedding, I'll try to visit the Iowa....

I intend to visit her next time I visit family in California. I've honestly thought of taking a vacation just to go see her, via Amtrak's Crescent and Sunset Limited for the cross-country run. Travel in comfort, see the South and Southwest roll by, visit The Big Stick and pay my respects, then come home the same way. We Iowans are proud of our namesake.

Someone on SteelNavy posted an image of Iowa under tow...
...correctly stated, this is likely the last time in the history of the world, one will ever see a battleship moving, with blue water beneath her keel.
Eternal honour and gratitude to all who served for freedom.
