On the way in to work...

I work at a government facility on a military base. On the long walk from the parking lot to my building, a military police vehicle pulled up beside me and the driver hollered out "Very nice outfit!" and gave me a thumbs-up. Definitely made me smile.

But then, as I went a bit further, when I turned a corner I saw three men evidently on patrol (camouflage, assault rifles, etc) walking towards me. One of them nudged the other two and pointed in my direction. As I was reviewing my possible responses to any comments, the lead one says "Well done, sir." - and salutes me! The other two quickly followed suit. Without thinking, I returned their salutes and said "Thank you, gentleman." and we continued on our separate ways.

This was definitely a first for me. And rather surprising as with my full beard and long hair, I don't exactly look like a military type any more .

    Hey Rob,
I will be working down there for the week of the 25th. What do you say we do a kilted lunch?

This would be great. Not completely sure what my schedule is but I think Friday the 29th is clear if you'll still be here then.

What a wonderful counter balancing story to the "One Person's Opinion" post. This is much more characteristic of the kinds of responses I have gotten too. Just goes to show ya .... And I salute you too!!!

    Special to rate a salute.

Got the "Nice Kilt" comment from another guy this evening heading into the supermarket. Said back, "Getcha one too." He replied that his legs were too skinny. Go figure - I think mine are too fat but kilt up anyway.

    Gotta love kilt compliments.
