Jonesing for "The Art of Kilt Making"
Yesterday before work I ordered "The Art of Kilt Making". I've been wanting this book for awhile. I already made a box pleat kilt of woodland camoflage, but I made errors that had i had the book I wouldn't have made. Can't wait to read it.

I've only had my copy for a couple months and it's already showing signs of wear, in both senses of the term. (My brother wanted his copy back.)
You might also want to download Matt Newsome's supplement on box-pleated kilts from the STM website. It too is an invaluable resource, even if you never do a box-pleated kilt.
Be careful though. Kilt making can be addictive.

+ 1 to that! I have had TAOKM for a short while as well and have made five kilts mostly for myself.

I already did. I made a box pleat woodland camoflage before I joined here using that down load and some other sources( Note to self, post the pics) and now I'm obsessed with making a military box pleat from U.S. Army tartan. If I can ever come up with the money for the tartan. Yes I'm addicted!

I have my well-worn copy of The Art of Kiltmaking and today I'm starting a 5-day kiltmaking workshop with Elsie Stuehmeyer herself!
It's something I've always wanted to do, ever since in the mid-1970s my grandmother made my first kilt for me, from a mostly-guesswork design that I came up with from looking at photos (neither of us had ever seen a kilt in person).
The Art of Kiltmaking is a must-have for anyone who owns and wears traditional kilts, and especially for anyone shopping for a traditional kilt. The most useful part of the book for the kilt-buyer is the section with a large number of closeup photos showing well-made and poorly-made pleats... that section, alone, is worth the price of the book, and pays for itself by helping the shopper avoid costly mistakes.

My kilts are PV from a local store, and my buckles are plastic snap buckles like you see on backpacks with nylon straps, I have made three boxpleated kilts, two knife pleated kilts and am currently making a kilt for a friend in khaki colored poly/cotton(same as Dickie's) so he can wear it at work, it will have reverse kingussy (sorry spelling) pleats that are 3/4" show and 7 1/4" inside of the pleats.
