    Dress, but economically

I'm back and I've come with question, again.

Ok for starters I was able to get a kilt [/applause]. It's the swk economy wool in Black Watch. I really like it and on these hot and humid days it's made a world of difference. Now I have a black five button waistcoat in my closet I like to wear when dressing up (church, special occasions, ect.). My question here is do you think a swk wool 5 yard kilt can be dressy?

Also I've got hose, a sporran and a thrifty the Misses bough me for my soon birthday. She doesn't like how it's looking without the hose and sporran, and thinks a know-about kilt is a good idea. So I'll post pictures when they arrive.

    So what's the rabble say?

I would say yes, with a dress shirt and the waistcoat, you could have a smart dress casual outfit for daywear. You definitely need the sporran to complete the look. With that, you'd be good for church in the warmer months, daytime weddings and any other less formal events.

Does you SWK 5-yarder have a higher rise? Meaning, how high do you wear it?

Just my opinion, but the real question is.whether the bottom of the vest covers the shirt without a gap before the top of the kilt? If so, you should be fine. Generally it is preferred that the shirt not show between the vest and the kilt. The type of kilt and yardage really shouldn't matter, again...my opinion.

I got an economy kilt last year and it can be worn dressed up.

Ok, it doesn't have the weight and full swing of say, a 13oz 8yd, but by matching the accessories - sporran, hose, etc., with an Argyll vest, it can look quite dressy.
If I can find the pics of our New Year meal out, I'll post one.

The rise, well no problem there. As Jerry instructs, I wear the kilt about navel height, maybe an inch higher. The shirt will not be see. And yes having the shirt seen when I wear pants to church makes me feel like a slob. Cool, expect pictures in a day or two.

    Thanks.

Yardage, type of fabric, etc. really is of little or no importance. All that matters is that when worn with a waistcoat there is no gap between the top of the kilt and the bottom of the waistcoat. From your description, there is obviously no "double stuffed Oreo" problem as the waistcoat neatly covers the top of the kilt.

Sounds like you are doing a great job of pulling it all together on a budget; well done!

As I promised here are a few pictures. I dressed up the Black Watch (wool) and showing off my new Thrifty Leatherneck. And please excuse the mess, we're in the middle of packing to move to a new house so, yeah.

    Questions or comments?

    One word - Awesome!

And making the assumption from the Leatherneck that you are a Marine - Semper Fi!

    *** on both counts.

You look great lad. Just picked up a BW wool from Jerry for my son's senior pics and prom with his new jacket and waistcoat. I had to hem it yesterday, but there is nothing wrong with the quality of these kilts, IMO.
