    Old Stewart arrived today

My new kilt in the Stewart old sett - modern arrived today on schedule as per UPS. Sent from USA Kilts last Thursday. Extremely happy with it, it looks and fits just fine. I was a little concerned that the sett was larger than I might like but it isn't nearly as large as I was picturing it thankfully. Rocky was a little concerned when he found out I wanted it at 22.5 in length. He thought it might be too short but it isn't, it is exactly where I want it which is just slightly covering the top of the knee. Also, the new kilt pin that Eric at USA Kilts selected for me looks great also. A very happy camper here tonight. And I even have pics............

    the box unopened

    the first peek

the nicely embossed straps (sorry about the poor pic)

the apron with new kilt pin (a couple of wrinkles from the shipping)

the pleats (still needed a little steaming to recover from the shipping)

No one was around to get any pics of me trying it on but maybe Saturday when it goes on its first big outing to the chutney and whiskey tasting event here in SF.

wow...I've never seen Old Sett in a sett that small? Is that because it's PV? I personally prefer the larger version...but to each their own. Your kilt looks very nice!

It's not PV longhuntr74, that is 13oz wool from House of Edgar. It is one of Rocky's 8yd premier kilts. If you look at the tartans on Rocky's premier kilt pages you can see a pic of this sett. To me, in that pic, it looks much larger than it is. I much happier with this smaller sett.

If you look closely at the sett, you'll notice that the FULL sett is every OTHER red stripe. Between the red/black sections are alternating green and blue sections. The sett size is 7 or 8" wide.

Nice kilt. Can't wait to see it in vivo, so to speak. My kilt height is 22.5, also. I like your kilt pin. Thanks for posting the pics.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

yes, you are exactly right on the sett size Rocky. Unfortunately it does not show very well on the pics I took with a cheapy camera. It is really a beautiful tartan and I thank you for doing such a great job on it Rocky.

Your last sentence is all that matters! Please don't misread my previous comments as disparaging...they weren't intended to be at all! It's a beautiful kilt...and because it's from Rocky, I know it's quality as well!

I was just struck by how different it looks from the larger sett variant that I've seen so often (and that I personally prefer...in general, I'm a fan of large setts over smaller setts). I was recently looking over my collection of HRH Prince Charles pics that I've harvested off the net and quizzing myself trying to ID all of his tartans that he wears...I knew I recognized this one (knew that I had seen it in the weathered variant...whereas this example is Ancient colors)...but I had to go the my copy of The Art of Kiltmaking to ID it.
