Well, I finally got some stuff together and my wife built be an X-kilt, which is my first kilt. I have worn it so far everyday to work (washed after 2 days so I could wear it again). I have to say, I love it. I do construction part of the time and shoe horses the other part of the week. We've been re-building an old barn and it's been really hot out. Good outside work to try my new kilt on and it has made a big difference in my comfort. My co-workers are slowly getting used to it, although I have to keep reminding them it may be in their best interests to be on the roof ABOVE me. I'm hoping to have some for fabric this weekend and build another one. Kinda liking this kilt thing.
Congrats on your first X kilt. The sayin here is "without pix, it didnt happen"
Good for you. Each one you make will be better than the last, and don't be afraid to tinker with the design to make it more "yours".

What Tartan Hiker said. Think of the X-Kilt as a learning experience. Now you know how to make a simple box-pleat kilt. But hey, do you wish that yours had pockets? OK, then....make some pockets on the next one. Do you think that you might have a better idea on how to close it? ... maybe some straps or something? Well....go to it!

I wanna make one, but the wife says I already have too many hobbies...

Do not be afraid your wife. Try to do this kilt. Step by step you can create it ;-) Great experience, and fun. And satisfaction from a new own kilt. Hobby is a time, when the second person can take a rest from his/her partner. I like very much simplicity and ergonomics of modern kilts. It is worth constructing this kilt.
