Kilts at Notre Dame/Navy game in Dublin, Ireland

Got done watching the last half of the ND-Navy "Irish classic" on CBS and they showed a couple of shots of 3-4 young men standing on the side of the field in colonial style redcoats with navy blueish great kilts.

I'm assuming they were with the Navy, as I doubt the kilts are a ND tradition, but does anyone know anything more about them? Is this a regular navy tradition?

    Sadly I didn't get a pic.

That would in fact be the Notre Dame Irish Guard who have been a fixture at Notre Dame games for quite a long time.

Thank you! I've never paid much attention to notre dame football before, so I've never noticed them. I was sure someone on here would know what they were about.

As a person who has long in interested in Highland uniform, I must say that their costume strikes me as very strange.

For one thing, an "Irish" uniform incorporating a Red Coat... well I'll not say another word about that... especially since the school colours are Blue & Gold. Why not blue coats?

For another thing, wearing Shakos with the kilt... where did they get that idea? Why not Feather Bonnets?
