Ha - very good. I love that Mars are promoting themselves as promoters of healthy active living!

I don't know how it works in Scotland, but if it's anything like the US, the fact that Mars has disavowed the deep-frying of its products will only serve to enhance its popularity. I seriously doubt anyone who eats one is under any illusion that they're partaking of a healthy lifestyle! I can only see this coverage as making the fried Mars Bar seem like more of a decadent delight.

A couple of years ago at a Celtic Festival I tried a deep-fried Mars Bar but came away disappointed. I was hoping it would be a completely new flavour experience. But really all it tasted like was a semi-melted (but still half-frozen) Mars Bar, covered in fried batter. The batter didn't really serve to add any new dimension to the candy bar. Maybe it was just a poor attempt by the vendor, but my impression was that the whole thing was overrated.

That isn't to say I wouldn't eat one again, though.

I've always heard that the true secret of deep frying is to have the oil at exactly the correct temperature and to adjust things as you go along since the temp drops every time you put something in the oil. Perhaps the fryer at your fest didn't have the temp adjusted just right...
