Frank: Wish I lived close enough to "drop by" Rocky's store. I like your kilt and new T shirt, and the sporran is fine. Your buddy's T appears to say "KEY COLONY INN". Is that the one on Key Colony Beach on Grassy Key? I used to spend a lot of time there.
Congrats on your newly ordered Semi-Trad. What tartan did you choose, or is that going to be a surprise for us when you post your pics?

Boy John, it is such a cool store. Quality stuff, lots of it, and good folks. Still kind of out in the boonies, but accessible.
My buddy Mike (the other guy in the pic) has lived in Red Bank NJ for decades. Would that be close to the places you mention? The gang we were with all graduated in '75 or a few in '76 from SUNY Plattsburgh. One of our gang is a doc at John Hopkins and puts this party on every year with friends old and new. There were well over 100 people there, but just me in a kilt.
I chose Ancient Campbell tartan for my first custom kilt, as Campbell is my most direct Scot lineage. They had material in a roll there that they literally brought out and showed me, so I know exactly what I'm getting, which is very cool.
Pics soon!

Frank: Maybe one day I'll make it to Rocky's, but it's a long way from New Mexico.
The KEY COLONY INN of which I spoke is in the Florida Keys near Marathon about half way to Key West. So, unless Mike vacationed in south Florida, it's probably not the same place.
Sounds like a great party that needed more kilts. I used to live in the Adirondacks just southwest of Plattsburgh, from Lake George to Fort Ticonderoga, ... beautiful country.
Can't wait to see your Ancient Campbell.

No kidding John? I was born and raised in Massena and went to undergrad school in Plattsburgh (71-75). I have spent plenty of time in the Adirondacks. Gail and I climbed most of the 49 peaks 35-40 years ago and still camp a lot in the Adirondacks. As point of fact, we are off the Nick's Lake Campground in Old Forge next weekend for a vintage trailer meet. I may again be the only one there in a kilt. We'll soon see!
Should have pics within a month, maybe 3 weeks Eric thought. It will be great I'm sure.
Thanks!

While there I bought a new t-shirt you can see in the bottom pic, and took some pics of their shop...
Along with the kilt, I ordered matching flashes, and paid a tad extra for rush. Accordingly I hope to have pics of me in my new USA Kilts Semi-Traditional kilt with the month!

Come on man don't you have any self-control? Weren't you the one moaning about the expense of kilts and such a few days ago? What kind of message are you sending about us to our friends on the other side of the pond? Oh wait, I just got an email...apparently someone with my exact name and my exact kilt measurements just ordered a casual kilt from USAkilts in Firefighter Memorial. I wonder who that could be.

McElmuury, that thread I started on the expense of kilts was a big help to my understanding (rationalization?) actually. Without it I probably would NOT have done this. Given the expense of this stuff, I figure if I'm gonna do it, I better do it before I retire. In that regard getting quality stuff from a place like USA Kilts is a good decision. And now I know how to get there...
When will you be getting your new kilt?
